A sleepy kiss | viktor & jayce | @kindredsmercy
Viktor got used to spending nights in the bathroom. Sleeping slouched between the tub and the toilet, back against the wall, legs bent against the tile. All so he could reach the toilet before the morning sickness had him doubled over. Once it had come in the hall. That had been a terrible bout of scrubbing that he refused to subject Jayce to– even as the chemicals of the cleaning solution made him sick all over again. He’d start his night in bed with Jayce, but there was always the moment when he felt his stomach squirm and he had to get up. Climbing out of his lover’s arms to curl up on the bathroom floor instead. All for a baby smaller than a raspberry at the moment.
And he tried to get back in bed before Jayce got back up in the morning. Tried to save face that he wasn’t as sick as he was for 8 weeks. That the hallway was a one-off and he was holding up with mild discomfort. He could manage. But this wasn’t managing, and Jayce had come close to catching him a time or two. Getting up as he was coming in from the bathroom because he had to go himself.
Tonight it was about 5:30AM by the time he felt like he wasn’t going to throw up all over the bed if he went to lay down. So, he got himself up and brushed his teeth– breathing hard through his nose the entire time –and limped back to bed with the wall as support. He’d left his cane in the bedroom. Nothing had changed since he’d gotten back up at midnight. Except maybe that Jayce was sleeping on his stomach now, arm stretched over Viktor’s pillow like he was searching for him. It tugged at something in Viktor’s chest to see him, but he only crossed the room toward the bed.
He was just sitting down when Jayce shifted suddenly, and the motion of it made Viktor lurch halfway around. Jayce was picking his head up off of the pillow, looking at him with his eyes clouded with sleep. He wasn’t quite awake, but more aware than half-asleep. The arm on his pillow slid to prop him up and he mumbled something unintelligible that sounded almost like “What’s going on?”.
“Nothing, Jayce–” Viktor spoke softly, reaching out to brush dark hair out of the other’s eyes and trailing his fingers down his cheek. “–Everything’s fine.” Pulling his legs up, he situated himself beside Jayce beneath the comforter, laying on his side so he was facing him. And for a moment he was still, watching him in silence as he laid his head back down, watching him back and fighting sleep. It was endearing and Viktor couldn’t help but smile. Scooting close to press a kiss to his sleepy lover’s lips, he lingered there a moment before whispering gently. “Go back to sleep, Jayce.”
