I’m really proud of Queen Marigold’s design I wanted to play into the whole fashionista thing lol. I also rlly like her cutie mark

ALSO King Marigold’s talent is fashion n tailoring. He’s got a passion for cool outfits and starting fashion trends and despite looking silly he actually rocks them lmao

Anyhow I made him a short dumpy earth pony instead of an alicorn becauseeee

Them as young adults!! I came up with a story of how they met >:3

Okay so basicallyyyy Queen Marigold (princess at the time) had an arranged marriage with this prince from another kingdom which she was supposed to marry (as Queen Thistle was arranged to King Thistle too) but she didn’t really love him yk. They didn’t click but she had to because it was royal family tradition. Her family hired this eccentric and flamboyant tailor who was extremely good at his craft. That being King Marigold(help me come up with first names for both of them pls but like mlp esque). He helped her design her dress, her jewelry, and her other accessories. They hit off immediately since he was able to match her silliness. They did fall in love. She couldn’t be with him though :(

And as the dress was complete, so came the wedding. And as the minister was like “Anyone have any reasons why these two shouldn’t get married or stay silent and forever keep your peace” and King Marigold, in dramatic fashion, bursts through the wedding hall doors being chased by royal guards saying “STOOOOP!!! STOP THE WEDDING!!” And he like dramatically professes his love to her as she’s on the altar with her fiancé whilst being held down by the royal guards in front of the entire Sky Kingdom nobility. And so she was like 😍 and she went “I love you too 💕” and called off the wedding(much to her mother’s and soon to be but not anymore parents in law’s dismay. Queen Thistle was all for it even though she thought he was annoying). Her betrothed was so crushed and he became emo for the rest of his life but it’s okay because King and Queen Marigold are happy together. He took her last name too what a king 👑

BAHLK Headcannon

P/s: This is not cannon in he real show. It is just a headcannon and a theory of mine. One thing it’s illogical in Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is (as far as I can remember when watching the show), that the a lot of the parents (Ex: King and Queen Thistle; Mr and Mrs Elf, Strawberry’s parents) doesn’t have first names. However, some of the adults have first names, such as Granny and Granpapa Thistle (Millicent and Victor Thistle); Wise Old Elf (Cedric Elf) ; Redbeard the Elf Pirate (Nigel);Nanny Plum (Plum, obviously). So, I have decided to give these characters first names (fan names) for sake of simpilicity:

Now to the headcannon part:                                                      

King Thistle: Douglas Thistle (reference to the Douglas fir, which is a plant name)

Queen Thistle: Rosemary Thistle ( Rosemary flowers are blue, plus it is a native British plant and can be used as a normal human name, like all of the female members in the Thistle family)

Queen Marigold: Marguerite Marigold (A variant of the name “Margaret” - means “pearl”. I named her as gemstone to show her wealth and poshness, plus the marguerite daisy exists)

King Marigold: Flavio Marigold (Means "golden" or "yellow-haired" from Latin. Same reason as why I name queen Marigold)

Mr Elf: John Elf (Named after John Sparkes - his voice actor)

Mrs Elf: Judy Elf (Named after Judy Flynn - her voice actor)

Fairy Mayor (Strawberry’s dad): Boris Fairy (Well.......He is a cartoon Boris Johnson look-alike, so I would name him Boris anyway🙂)

Strawberry’s mum: Dahlia Fairy (Dahlia is a plant name, like her daughters’ name Strawberry and Raspberry)

Remember when I said before Queen Marigold was married to King Marigold, she was in an arranged marriage? Well here’s her ex fiancé who turned emo after she broke off the engagement with her! Prince Basil. He was very very in love with her and her excited to get married to her. And even after years he still is he’s just very passive aggressive now. But aggressive aggressive to King Marigold do NOT leave him alone in a room with King Marigold he will MESS HIM UP.

He wrote Princess Marigold songs when they were engaged. And he was also snooty but in the elitist upper class way.

This was his dynamic with him at the time

And now for an unfinished comic I will never finish ever

He never got over it

After they broke the engagement, Basil got a complete makeover (he wanted to dye his coat black but that’s the one thing his mom wouldn’t let him dye) and he redecorated his entire kingdom. And when he became king, the guards uniform too.

Sometimes he has to visit the Marigolds or the Thistles or both on official royal business which he dreads but he’s always happy to see Queen Marigold. Just not her husband. He tolerates the Thistles but he does like Daisy and Poppy. Defo was the one that taught them how to use makeup when they were old enough.
