I enjoy the different ways the humans on Empires coped with being surrounded by magic.
Joel convinced himself it didn't exist.
Gem decided to harness it and become a wizard through study.
fWhip tried to mix it with science and engineering, until eventually he himself fused with the magic and grew wings.
Pix wanted to exist alongside it, but got tangled up in dangerous powers. Eventually, he couldn't handle the harm he inadvertently caused and ran away.
(I'm pretty sure all of them are canonically humans or at least started out as such, and the wiki agrees, but I'm not sure)
