Writeblr Anniversary Celebration: Wrapping it up several months later!
Hi I’m new :D but can I get a uhhhhhhh kiribaku fantasy au angst??
Katsuki awoke from his few hours of fitful sleep. Sighing, he turned to his side and drew his cape in closer around him, shivering. He wasn’t sure how he’d slept alone before the dragon shifter had shown up, refusing to leave him alone and weaseling his way into Katsuki’s life, into his bed, and eventually, into his heart. The thought made his heart clench; he was going to have to figure it out, because it didn’t look like Kirishima was coming back. He tried to push them away, but memories of their battle three days ago, along with a fresh round of tears, sprang forward.
There had been a fight. This wasn’t that unusual for them – with him running from the law and Kirishima being, well, a fucking dragon, they both had a lot of enemies. The entire foundation of their relationship was trust, loyalty, and protection. Having each other’s backs against the world. Until Katsuki had fucked it up, that is.
A group of dragon slayers that had been tailing them for weeks now had finally caught up to them. Katsuki had thought they would have the fight in the bag no matter what. Numbers were never an issue for them now that Kirishima was a full-grown dragon in his fully shifted form. But Katsuki had gotten distracted, fallen for the baiting and mockery of the dragon slayers’ leader. In retrospect, it was obvious that he had heard of Katsuki’s hot-headed reputation and was using it to his advantage, which made him feel even more sick about it. He’d walked straight into the trap.
He and Kirishima were on the ground, Kirishima in full dragon form fighting with his fire while Katsuki was taking on a group of three with his explosion magic. As usual, they had been moving seamlessly around each other, instinctually accounting for the other’s position, flowing as they fought because they just fit.
Until the leader, some asshole with half-and-half hair, had started baiting him, mocking him by acting bored and as if he had expected more from Katsuki’s reputation. Katsuki should’ve seen it for what it was – a trap – but he didn’t. He’d fallen for it, getting careless and more reckless with his explosions, focusing single-pointedly on the half-and-half bastard. He didn’t have the proper head on his shoulders to account for Kirishima’s movement, even though he saw it from the corner of his eye. He’d been too absorbed in the explosion building in his palms, an unnecessarily large one that would show that bastard who he was. He released it a second before he realized his mistake, and then it was too late. The blast was hitting Kirishima instead of the dragon slayer, straight in the face, blinding him.
A tear slid down Katsuki’s face as he recalled Kirishima’s pained roar. He could still hear the shock and the sense of betrayal in it. Katsuki been helpless to do anything other than hold the dragon slayers off as he watched Kirishima stumble towards the forest edge, shifting back into his human form and running blindly into the safety of the trees. He’d made quick work of the men after that, his rage at himself and his desperation to go find and help Kirishima boosting his abilities.
It didn’t matter though – he’d searched the woods for hours, screaming his name until his voice gave out, with no sign of his dragon. Now, it had been three days and Kirishima still hadn’t come back. Katsuki knew with Kirishima’s tracking skills he would be more than able to find him, as he hadn’t ventured far from the scene of the fight. No, he had to conclude form Kirishima’s continued absence that he simply didn’t want to come back to him. Katsuki felt the thought breaking his heart all over again.
He rolled over onto his back as more tears slid down his face. With the memory of Kirishima’s scream playing on repeat in his head, he knew he didn’t deserve him. He should be with someone better, someone who would never hurt him, someone who wouldn’t put their petty pride over his fucking safety.
“I’m sorry, Kirishima,” he whispered wetly into the air, staring at the blue sky he could see through the canopy of trees above him. Objectively a beautiful sight, but he hated the blue and the green for their lack of red. He’d give anything for even a glimpse of leathery wings, just for the knowledge that he was at least okay.
“One fight and I’m back to my surname?”
Katsuki shot up at the speed of light, refusing to believe his ears until he saw his face. But it was real. Kirishima was standing at the edge of the clearing he’d been sleeping in. He looked rough, hair down, clothes torn and dirty. The skin around his right eye was red and swollen, sending a surge of guilt through Katsuki’s gut, but it didn’t look like anything that time and a bit of salve wouldn’t fix. He also looked pissed as hell, but it didn’t matter, nothing fucking mattered, because he was actually here.
“Eijirou,” Katsuki croaked, tears falling faster, and he watched the angry expression on Kirishima’s face soften, just a little.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about a new AU, and I’m absolutely blowing off this family shit to write more for it lmaoo lmk if you wanna know what it’s about
