Let me tell you something about this version of Cinderella. And about the story of Cinderella in general.
No other fairy tale hits this point as hard. Sure they all have princes and happy endings (at least in Disney) but Cinderella’s prince, Kit, he is the one willing to search the length of the land for his love. Except he’s not prince anymore. He is King Kit.
Now as a Christian this story, and this version in particular, emphasise the idea of the Prince humbling himself to rescue his love. And that is exactly what Christ did for us, the church, his bride. See this is why Jesus is my prince charming.
You know that scene where Cinderella enters the ballroom and everyone turns and stares. What girl or woman hasn’t wished to be the belle of the ball like that. To be recognized and admired. But instead of being ourselves and content we chase a thousand things to fill the void of wanting to be recognized. We crave being noticed.
But what a relationship with Jesus does is tell you. You are enough. Cinderella didn’t go to the ball to steal the show. She didn’t even know Kit was the prince. But she did. She wasn’t chasing attention but she got it. Because she was sweet and kind and well the gorgeous dress didn’t hurt. But that’s not what won her the king’s approval. It was her artless grace as she paused mid-flight to tell him how much she admired his son.
What I’m saying here is that if the dream that your heart has been wishing for is to have your Cinderella story God is the Prince you’re looking for. He won’t turn you away just because your dirty. He won’t hold it against you that you ran from him and He will seek through the kingdom just to find you, save you, and call you His own. He loves you more than Kit loved Ella or any other pairing you can think of. He is the storybook hero and he has a pretty amazing kingdom that is not once upon a time but always and forever.
