He hadn't been surprised that Kakashi had chosen to escape ANBU. The boy had been picking apart at the edges because of how Hiruzen tended to handle his people, and it led them down a rather interesting path that had ANBU trained that way often shaking themselves apart at the seams. You can't be both light and dark, but Hiruzen expected it.

Danzo knew better. Still, Hiruzen hadn't let him take the child before, and now that he was older, all he could do was mend the damage in the Hatake to the point where he wouldn't completely crumble in the face of lessened structure. Thus, here he was, casually intercepting the youth who seemed in too much of a hurry for having nowhere he needed to actually be.
