IT

Right.

Remember how I would swear Room 66 II was the scariest room ever? Yeah, scratch that. We visited IT.

Once we'd worked up the nerve to step inside, we were greeted by a game master whose demeanour I'd describe as... the first stage of possession, hahaha.

As per usual, we started the game with me being separated from the team.

Having no say in this, I removed my blindfold goggles and got ready for jump scares. No such occurred (as yet), so I started telling my team everything I could see.

Little by little, we made progress and managed to get back together—the room reacted to us thinking we were ready to leave by playing us the music you'd expect to hear at the end of the school year at Hogwarts. Erroneously, I was sure we'd made a record and thought I was stepping outside again, fully expecting to have our photo taken for the blog. Alas.

That's when the actual game started. After my screams deafened everything else, I calmed down and allowed my team to look at the tasks while I was scanning all corners, expecting a jump from literally anywhere.

Until the end of the game I pretty much alternated between "yeah, I'm not opening my eyes" and "OMG, this room is so cool!" and then cue the screaming, ha...ha.

Tezoro and I spent the first few moments together hugging and crying and refusing to venture further into the room, but Ilianka was having none of that. To this day, she is still waiting for something to actually scare her. At one point even the game master commended her mid-game and said that she should've seen our faces while she was bravely working on her own.

I guess what makes this room scarier for me is the element of control. In Room 66, the evil is before you constantly, whereas here, it comes and goes, exacerbating the situation for a control freak like me. A prominent quote was: "GUYS, I NOW UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO BREAK INTO A COLD SWEAT!".

I'm actually proud of myself, as I did contribute to some of the tasks, which goes to show I didn't spend the whole game glued to the wall. That was especially evident in the VEEERY last quest, where I played the most crucial role, but I can't spoil what that is. Let's say my skills... popped. 🤡

We spent an hour talking to the team after we escaped. I drank two litres of water after we escaped and we were happy to learn about all the anecdotes the boys had to share.

The game master even presented me with a paper boat he'd prepared as a prop, OMG!

Fun fact: Even though it felt I was holding back the team a lot, we actually managed to escape 15 earlier before time was out, so...

Much to my surprise, the guy playing IT confessed he's a scaredy cat himself usually, so let's see if this helps me visit horror escape rooms more easily. Some people imagine the people in the audience naked to ameliorate stress, I view horror actors as more afraid than I am. (Yeah, we both know this isn't going to work next time, right?)
