Five Sisters of Kintail - November #1 by Justin Laidlaw
I first drank Balvenie at Kintail Lodge in Scotland. I kept asking for something smooth and not peaty, but I hadn’t yet found a scotch I liked. When I told that to a bartender, he asked what other ones had given me and then scoffed. He gave me Balvenie. And it was fantastic. . And then a group of lovely people adopted me into their squad for the next few nights, discussing Harry Potter and the deeper sides of life while buying me Balvenie and refusing to let me pay for anything. And so Balvenie tastes like cool mist and new friends for me; it is a drink of joyous taste and warmth and reminiscing. That’s why it was my first reward to myself on completing 14 days (not concurrent) of not biting my nails.
