@kiokodoodles very kindly gave me permission to make a charter inspired by her mermaid pirate UT au.

The whole concept of this AU is so interesting and well-thought out that as I was reading through the posts I felt an OC calling from the depths of my brain to be let out ^^;

So, here she is: Celia the Selkie.

Info:

·       She has two names: her real name is almost impossible to pronounce for non-seals. Her ‘human’ name, “Celia”, was given to her by Sans (unsurprising, considering the pun).

·       Instead of completely shedding her seal skin and going full ‘human’, events in her past have left Celia unwilling to fully transform. Now she’ll only partially change, keeping her seal skin on her body as a sort of pseudo clothing so that she can escape quickly if needs be. This is why she has webbed hands as a ‘human’.

·       In her seal form, she looks almost indistinguishable from any other seal. However, if you get up close, you’ll notice the longer tufts of fur on the back of her head and neck.

·       As a seal, she can only communicate with barks and whistles. If she wants to talk to any non-seals, she must transform into a ‘human’.

·       Selkies are much shyer than mermaids, so she never learnt to speak any ‘land’ languages before meeting the crews. She picked up English from mimicking the skeles, but she frequently has to ask if there’s a word she doesn’t know.

·       She’s very short in her ‘human’ form: only 4’5”!

·       Selkies come from the colder, northern oceans – she’s a long way out of her comfort zone.

Story:

  The Selkie found herself carried out to sea by a terrible storm one day. She was swept far from the waters she knew, and quickly got herself lost. She didn’t understand these new, warmer seas, or how to hunt in them. Hunger pushed her to raid a fishermen’s net, only to get tangled up in it. She managed to get away, but she couldn’t free herself from the net. With her fins pinned to her sides, she couldn’t hunt or even really swim, and could only keep herself afloat to breathe.

  The poor, starving seal was discovered by the crew from the University of Ebott. Taking pity on the creature, they hauled her aboard their ship, cut away the net and caught her fish to help her regain her strength. Dr Comic suggested calling her “Celia”, much to his brother’s ire. She was initially terrified of the crew, but as the days passed, she began to relax as she realised they only wanted to help.

   Finally, Celia plucked up the courage to thank them properly for saving her life. But to do that, she needed ‘human’ vocal cords. Needless to say, the entire crew were astounded that the seal they’d rescued was actually a mythical Selkie, and their scientific minds were eager to study this little-known creature. Celia decided to stay with them, as she had little hope of surviving by herself in these strange waters. Maybe she can even make it back to her home seas one day?
