this is a mistake. no one makes phone calls anymore! he’s not in the hospital, he’s not calling out of work, he shouldn’t be doing this! ( but, )  he’s literally down the street from the castle, he’s pulled to the curb, phone pressed to his ear, anxiety thrumming in his ears with his heartbeat. a phone call is just so much more convenient than a text in this instance. ( fuck! ) she answers and his heart drops into his stomach and despite his instinct, he doesn’t hang up; he speaks instead. “hey,” he says, a little frantically. “hey -- thanks for picking up and sorry for the phone call, i just -- i’m like. a five minute walk from the castle and i wanted to know if maybe you wanted to hang out since i’m like... in the neighborhood.”

“oh! yeah, of course.” kieran pulls her close to his chest, fingertips brushing into her hair affectionately. he doesn’t know what’s wrong. she hasn’t told him yet, but he knows she’s having a difficult day, he can see it in her soft blue eyes, in the slight pout of her pink lips. he will do anything he can for her, he will listen or he will even just hold her if that’s all she needs.  “i’ve got you, mia.” he says, his voice is soothing and soft as surprisingly defined arms wrap tighter around her, holding her closer, lips brushing against her forehead softly. “everything’s going to be alright.”
