i’m looking at you @mtv @teenwolf [x]
Omg I've been waiting for ages to see if they will be doing a #Kiraspinoff and, I hope they do the show but don't let Jeff Davis near the show and not on MTV somewhere like Netflix or Hulu or any other streaming services. If they do the show they could add more Japanese supernatural creatures or other supernatural creatures from different myths. What other creatures would like to see that weren't shown on Teen Wolf and why?
I totally agree! I strongly believe that this show should happen, but that it should be in the hands of an Asian American woman showrunner. I’m not too picky about what platform it would be on, so long as it happens and everyone is treated well.
I’m not well enough read on Japanese supernatural creatures/mythology to know what should be in the show (although I’m definitely planning on looking into it so that I can work on my pilot/pitch), but I think it would be really cool if there was something with ghosts maybe? Then the Teen Wolf world could be expanded to include the concept of a spiritual afterlife/other realm.
Or mermaids would be cool! 😂 If the show takes place in New York (which is what I imagine), it would be so awesome if there were mermaids chilling in the Hudson River and Kira befriended or allied with them.
Thanks for sending this! Always happy to talk about the #KiraSpinoff!!!
Hi! I saw the #KiraSpinOff tag on Twitter and now I'm very excited at that entire idea! What do you think a Kira spin off would look like? Where would Kira be? Which actors and actresses would you want to see? (Can either be from the show or just entirely new ones.) Aside from her parents, I think I'd like to see Kaylee Bryant as a kitsune. Or maybe Ryan Potter? Gosh, the possibilities are endless! Thank you so much for bringing up that hashtag!
Wow hi sorry for the late reply! I’ve been thinking about what I was gonna say all day haha!
Well the first thing is I definitely want ‘Tales’ to be in the name of the show (as a play on kitsune tails). Something like ‘Yukimura Tales’ or ‘Kitsune Tales’ or something to that effect. I also think it would be great if it was 10 years later or so - that way Arden could play her age, we’re removed from where we left off, and Ken Yukimura would still be alive so we could see her interact with her parents.
Personally, I think it would be really fun if Kira moved back to New York after mastering her kitsune abilities. We could see fun Kira in the city - maybe at the beginning of the pilot, she’s living a relatively normal life. She has a job, she’s having bad luck dating, maybe she has a pet or some plants in her apartment. Then at her job something supernatural comes up and she gets thrown back into the supernatural world and we can meet the other kitsune, wolves, and werecreatures of New York City.
I think it would be really cool if Lyrica Okano (Niko from Marvel’s Runaways) was maybe another kitsune? Especially since Runaways was cancelled (😭😭😭), she’s free now 🤷♀️. But also there are so many talented Asian American actors out there and I think a lot of people would make awesome additions to the show!
I’m also really excited about the opportunity to see some faves from Teen Wolf have cameos - most realistically Scott since Tyler Posey seems the most hyped about making more Teen Wolf lol.
Anyhoo thanks so much for sending this! I definitely think we shoud all post with #KiraSpinoff and tag @mtv and @teenwolf so they know how much we’d love to see Kira get her own show!
Hiya, can you please tell us more about the #KiraSpinOff? Like, who would be the villains? Which people do you want in it aside from Lyrica Okano? Would you want the show-runner / writers / whoever is responsible to bring in Inari?
Ooh villains!! Well I definitely think we’d need some original villains for this show. I feel like it would be really interesting instead of a black and white ‘this person is evil’ kind of villain, there was a villain whose motivations were really understandable (a la Killmonger in Black Panther - not exactly that but something in that vein). I think this would be a fun challenge for the audience and also for Kira as a hero. I’d have to do a bit of thinking about what that motivation would be, but I think that would be a fun concept to play with.
As for casting, I’m not totally sure! I feel like there are so many talented Asian American actors that would be great. Of course, I think the show should have a diverse cast, but I think it would be great if it really showcased Asian American stories and actors primarily. I feel like it’ll probably be up and coming actors who we haven’t seen much of before in this show, but a few actors I’m loving right now are Momona Tamada (love her in The Baby-Sitters Club - she could be a fun young cousin or distant relative in an episode) and Teddy Lee (I thought he was really wonderful in Ms. Purple - maybe he’s Ken’s TA or something and gets sucked into the supernatural drama).
I definitely have a lot more reading to do about Japanese and Korean mythology before I know for sure which aspects I would want to include in my dream #KiraSpinoff, but I just read a bit about Inari and I think that would be cool! Definitely makes sense considering the relationship to kitsune!
Thanks so much! I’m always happy to talk about the #KiraSpinoff
