Once again they had moved, this time ‘it will be the last time’ but he didn’t really believe that. Roman sat in his bedroom listening to his mother talking downstairs on the phone, he sighed heavily. Sleep just wouldn’t come this early, not when he was so curious about the new town they’d just moved into. He stood up and climbed out the window, since he was supposed to be going to bed, then left the house on foot.
He wandered the streets for a while, it was definitely more active than the last town they were in. People were everywhere even though it was already dark, it just didn’t seem to bother them the way it did back where they used to live. The nightlife here was actually a thing and he wanted to be a part of it. He was just about to head into a nightclub, when he heard a strange noise. Roman turned his head as he approached an alley, it wasn’t the kind of sound a human would be able to hear so he had to be careful not to let on that he’d heard it.
Acting casual, he stopped at the alley entrance and lit up a cigarette.
He looked at the tall man who was standing about halfway in, the shadows concealing his face like a mask. It was not often that Roman would meet someone as tall as himself. He tried to be friendly and nodded at the man, offering him a smile but tensing up in case the guy was bad news.
“’Sup?”
