Hunger
(guess who just got a pen tablet ^^)
Never.
For a long moment, Freddie had been watching the guy as he stared down into what she could only assume was some kind of gape in the ground. She could not see it from her position in the trees behind him but the way he had suddenly stopped walking and glanced down gave it away. She had a very good eye for details and she thought he looked like he might actually jump or something. So she knelt down and picked up a small twig, breaking it in half noisily to get his attention without startling him. He was incredibly close to the edge and if he got a surprise he might accidentally fall over it.
Now that she was being addressed by the guy, Freddie slowly and carefully stepped into a patch of moonlight so he could see her and not identify her as a threat.
āMy name is Freddie Lounds.ā She greeted him with a nervous sort of smile.Ā āIād uh, love to speak with you but um.. Yāknow.. Maybe somewhere a littles less.. Woodsy?ā
She casually flicked a cricket off her shoulder to emphasize her point and then she waited for him to respond.
At first, Roman felt angry that someone had dared to follow him all the way out here. He thought that he could easily now just lure her closer and toss her down into the gorge below, nobody would ever find her. He thought she was some nosy journalist, most likely she probably was but she hadnāt introduced herself as one. So was she here for another reason, besides bugging him for an interview with his mother or something?
āRoman Godfrey. What do you want?ā Roman asked her, trudging toward her and then continuing on right past her as if she wasnāt there. If she really wanted some kind of exclusive scoop, sheād have to work for it.
āIām not exactly in the mood to socialize.ā In case she couldnāt tell..
Roman almost laughed.Ā
āDad, Iām not a baby anymore. Havenāt been one for a while now.ā But he couldnāt begin to understand the way a mother feels about her child, he didnāt realize that no matter how old a child got, their mother would always see them as their baby.
āI sure hope so.ā He added when Julian reassured him once more.Ā āIām getting tired of her trying to shelter me all the time. I can handle myself just fine without her wiping my ass every five minutes.ā
Because of what Julian had, Olivia could do nothing more. She had to follow his instructions even if she didnāt want to, knowing full well he was going to cause her as much unnecessary pain and discomfort as he possibly could. He just didnāt like her. Maybe if she could get him talking, make him see her as a person and not just something he could play with, maybe then he would treat her better?
It was worth a try because doing nothing wasnāt getting her anywhere good.
But before she could get more than a few words out, she felt the most horribly searing pain shooting through her body and she started to scream accordingly. She screamed so much it hurt her throat.
āWHAT WAS THAT!?ā
It was true, Romanās clothing was proof of this. There were bullet holes here and there and while his flesh could heal from the wounds, his clothes could not. Of course Jack reacted to the situation as he was supposed to, with many questions Roman wasnāt ready to answer. Not yet.
āThat doesnāt matter right now.ā He spoke with some urgency in his tone.Ā āThereās no time to explain. We need to get you outta here and fast. Can you please just trust me?ā
It wouldnāt do either of them any good for Jack to be caught again, Roman didnāt enjoy killing after the fact but while he was doing it he felt like he couldnāt ever stop. The killing part was easy, he just had to make up his mind and do it. Living with himself afterwards, that was the difficult part..
āWe need to go. Now.ā
He could have breathed a sigh of relief but Roman didnāt want Lex to know heād been second guessing himself, that wouldnāt go down too well. He had to show confidence in what he was saying, he needed Lex to see that he knew what he was talking about. Roman had every ability to surpass the businessmanās expectations, all he required was a chance to prove it and by the sounds of it, Lex had just agreed to at least give him this rare opportunity.
āYou wonāt regret it.ā Roman reassured him.Ā āI promise.ā
It was going well, much better than heād expected it to in the beginning but it seemed as though Lex was a lot easier to get along with than most other people like him. The suits who looked down on everyone else, judging and snooty, all about money and instant profit.Ā
āI know youāre taking a risk by trusting me.ā Roman added.Ā āBut itāll be so worth it in the end. You have no idea..ā
Judging by the way he was being stared at, it was clear to Roman that his presence was most unwelcome here. Unfortunately, his inherent sense of morbid curiosity held him in place no matter how much his brain was telling him to get out of there. Even as he was being slowly approached, Roman couldnāt take his eyes away from the scene.
He was puzzled about what was being said to him because the man had stated thatĀ āweā donāt like to discuss it in public, but who else was here? Looking around for a moment, he realized suddenly it must have meant the rats were included in that statement and not some other person.Ā
āSure.. Okay.ā Roman put his hands up in front of his chest, stepping back from the strange man so that he and his rats couldĀ āfinish upā whatever it was they were doing.Ā
For a moment, Olivia thought about telling him to just go on and walk after her. She knew he was no baby.Ā
She bent and picked him up anyway, holding him close to her chest as she began to make her way back home. She said nothing as they walked the long journey, of course she could have called for her car but it was nice out and sheād walked here while lost in thought so she might as well finish what sheād started.
Maybe it would be nice to have a little one around again, it had been so long since her son had grown up and no longer needed her or even wanted her around anymore. She couldnāt really blame him but she also couldnāt help feeling cast aside, after all she had done for him..
At last they were at her mansion and she stepped into the silence within.
Olivia didnāt know how this was going to play out but it was definitely going to be interesting..

Just a fact
Roman Godfrey is not a vampire. Although classified as a subspecies of Vampire, Upir are technically demon/witch hybrids. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
While she suspected that Julian was not ever going to simply allow her to walk free, that he would most likely try to kill her once he was done, Olivia was also convinced she could turn this around to suit her own agenda. She would just bide her time and chip away at him, sooner or later he was bound to start feeling something for her. Sheād take whatever she could get, be it something as pathetic as sympathy or maybe something much more powerful..Ā
If she could make him somehow fall in love with her she knew sheād have him right where she wanted him, but from what she could gather by his behavior right now this was not going to be at all an easy task. She would have to endure a lot of whatever Julian had planned for her but she was not going to give up without a fight. She would have his heart and soul, one way or another.
āFine.ā She pretended to zip her lips. But she was still angry that he basically had just told her to shut the fuck up.
