This is a good friend – Heike (Dr. Heike Wiegand).

Heike is a very engaging individual with widely ranging interests and also a highly accomplished businesswoman (e.g. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/heike-wiegand-42740a9) - and that’s exactly the combination I wanted the portraits to convey when we did the shoot in early August 2015 around the http://www.kunsthaus.ch/en in Zurich, after a delicious Korean dinner at nearby http://www.misoga.ch.

The photos during dinner weren’t nearly as good as the ones later on, which to me is yet more proof of one of my favourite “Good Portraits 101” posts by one of my favourite photo bloggers of all time, Kirk Tuck: http://visualsciencelab.blogspot.ch/2015/12/portraits-sometimes-it-is-quiet-moments.html . As always with Kirk, admirably short, succinct, to the point, and generous with the nuggets of a lifetime’s experience. And the best moments of our shoot came about exactly as he describes.

"There is something deeply wrong in modern society. There are large groups of people who have come to imagine that the screens of their phones are appropriate venues for sharing their photographic images (or portfolios) with other people. If you are one of these people and your friends are as clueless and classless as you then I guess it really doesn't matter, but...if you are trying to share your work with someone whose action upon having viewed your images could be helpful to your career or your cause then you need to re-think your presentation skills and recalibrate your ideas about what constitutes appropriate displaying and sharing tactics."

Sharing photographs through prints is one of the best ways to share your photographs - there's just something physical and intimate about it. But the next best thing would be something large and digital, like the iPad. Kirk takes us through the different options we have for sharing our work.

Apropos of the previous post I made on working in solitude, Kirk Tuck makes another one on the same topic, this time more on the concept of photographic groups and their photowalks. The points he makes are pretty much why I prefer not to join most photography groups, sticking with just a few people I know who don't shoot what I shoot. In fact most of the time we wander off on our own, only rejoining to move on to another location. Hence keeping it individualistic but still social.
