Kit and Sam
“It’s too windy out” Sam mumbled into Kit’s hair. The winter chill hadn’t yet given way to the warmth of Spring, causing the shade under the oak tree to be a touch too cold. Sam reached and pulled the blanket tighter around them, curling closer into the human furnace that was Kit Davis.
Kit nudged them, “C’mon, you promised that you would stay out to watch the sunset with me. It starts in about twenty minutes, then we can go back in the car”
“Uuugghh,” Sam groaned, “fine.” Though they knew it would be more than twenty minutes. After the sun set Kit would want to stay and look at the stars, wait until the sky darkened to an almost black that neither friend could remember the name of. Sam knew that when the sun dipped below the horizon Kit would get cold and demand that they go to the car and get more blankets. Then they would spend the next hour listening to her ramble about constellations, galaxies, and how most of the sky was full of ghosts. It always happened that way, every Spring since Sam could remember, the two of them would drive far away from the city lights to watch the sunset.
They would miss this next year, Kit was going to a college halfway across the world and wouldn’t be back till summer. Until then, Sam would just have to annoy her as much as possible. They shuffled closer to Kit, pushing their freezing toes under Kit’s legs.
“Get your smelly frozen feet away from me!” Kit shoved Sam out of the safety of the blanket. They stood up and looked a Kit, a smirk making its way onto their face.
“Oh no, I know that smile, you better not Sam. Sam no-” Kit squealed as Sam tackled her, placing their ice cube fingers around Kit’s waist.
“That’s what you get for exposing me to the tundra.”
“It’s not my fault that your body doesn’t understand the meaning of warm blooded,” Kit huffed, shoving Sam off her once more.
“Your mom doesn’t understand the meaning of warm blooded”
Kit paused, “What does that even mean Sam.”
“Shhh, the sun is starting to set”
“Why do I have to be quiet to watch the sunset?”
“Why does your mom-”
“Huh, you’re right, we do need to be quiet to watch the sunset.”

Kit rested her head on Sam’s shoulder, both content to watch the streaks of orange, purple, and yellow against the horizon. Sam smiled, dusk was their favorite time — and in the middle of nowhere with Kit — this felt like home. They laid down onto the blankets, studying the sky as the first stars began to appear.
“Star Light, Star Bright,” Sam whispered, “first star I see tonight”
“I wish I may,” Kit joined, “I wish I might.”
Sam’s mouth tugged into a grin, “Have this wish-”
“AHHH CHOOO”
“Kiiiiiittttt, you ruined the moment.”
“Oh yes, because I definitely can control when I sneeze”
Sam looked at her for a moment, a mischievous grin on their face.
“Hey Kit,” Sam poked her, “Hey Kit.” They poked her again
“What Sam,” She turned, and accidentally received a poke in the eye.
“Fuck, ow.”
“Sorry,” Sam replied, not looking sorry at all and poked her again, “Hey Kit.”
She rolled her eyes, “What Sam?”
“They say every time you sneeze a boy is thinking of you.Is someone crushing on you Kit?”
“Fuck off Sam”
“Nah, I rather enjoy annoying you.”
“I’ll fight you Sam”
“Bring it Davis.”
I just want to mention that I mean for Kit and Sam to be completely platonic. These OCs are really important to me and so is their relationship. Also I’m probably going to be writing with them more often, so if you have any questions ask away!
