HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, Y'ALL

here’s a little snippet of something i’m writing (in which oikawa is a good caring senpai (surprisingly) and all tobio needs is someone by his side)

“Why are you here, Oikawa-san?” His voice is rough from lack of use and so quiet that for a second, he doubts that Oikawa even heard him.

But the senior shifts towards him, eyebrows upturned in surprise. He shakes it off quickly, replaced instead by a haughty raised brow.

“My, not even a hello, how are you doing? How’s your day, Oikawa-senpai? Lovely manners, Tobio.” Oikawa drawls, waving a hand flippantly in the air. Despite his annoyed tone, his amusement slips through.

Oh, he’s being playful.

And the glint in his eyes isn’t his usual arrogance or smugness- it is full of mirth. A gentle kind, soft in a way he rarely sees the senior. Atleast, not towards him.

The older setter lights up when Kageyama cracks a small, barely there smile.

There’s a bout of silence and Oikawa sombers, turning back to the lake in front of them. There’s grimness in his rueful smile.

“I was getting my knee checked,” Oikawa says. “It didn’t hurt that bad, but Iwa-chan made me go anyway. He’s such a worrywart.” He huffs. Despite his attempt at a light tone, there’s a hint of despair that aches throughout it.

Kageyama glances at his knee and indeed, there’s a brace on it now.

Oikawa shrugs. “The doctor told me to take it easy for a bit, ‘no jumping or overworking’, he said.

“What does he know though? He doesn’t even play volleyball!” He throws his hands in the air in frustration before crossing his arms with a harrumph.

“How am I supposed to ‘not jump around’? I may not be a wing spiker, but that doesn’t mean my feet are always planted, ugh!”

Oikawa startles when he hears a chuckle beside him. His enraged eyes soften when they meet his junior’s blues.

“You can handle a few days without overworking, Oikawa-san.” Kageyama mutters, matter of factly.

“And if you don’t, Iwaizumi-san might force you into ‘taking it easy’ whether you’d like it or not.”

Oikawa chuckles, wistful.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

I just got into a fight with someone in a YouTube comments section because they said everyone at Seijou but Oikawa sucked and Iwaizumi was a shitty friend for holding him back from going to nationals and IwaOi is toxic and Seijou is shit because they lost to Karasuno in the practice match

Excuse me what.

Aoba Johsai has been considered a powerhouse team long before Oikawa was there, Kageyama mentions that a lot of players from Kitagawa—a powerful middleschool team, their players are pretty good—went to Aoba Johsai, why would good players go to a shitty team? They wouldn’t—Kageyama only went to Karasuno because he thought the OG Coach Ukai was coming back, not because he thought the team was good—it just isn’t logical if they can go somewhere better.

Seijou was definitely not at its best during the practice match, and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that they weren’t used to playing with Yahaba as a setter, especially not the rest of the Seijou Four. They were good players, they just weren’t used to Yahaba’s sets and Yahaba wasn’t really used to them.

Also, don’t come at me with that “All of Seijou is weak without Oikawa” shit. Iwaizumi LITERALLY has the same stats as Ushijima, he broke through the unbreakable Iron Wall like it was NOTHING. Kyoutani is a fucking POWERHOUSE, Makki and Mattsun are really good too. Do not slander the Seijou beans.

Iwaizumi is NOT a shitty friend—has this person seen the show? He’s the best friend OF THE SERIES—and he sure as fuck didn’t hold Oikawa back. Oikawa chose not to go to Shiratorizowa and I don’t think first year Oikawa could really survive and flourish without Iwaizumi. Shiratorizowa also revolves around Ushijima and I don’t think that would be the best environment for Oiks to be in. Iwaizumi has only ever pushed Oikawa foreword.

I don’t really need to rant about how IwaOi isn’t toxic do I? Most people know it’s not and it deserves its own post.

When Kageyama was at Kitagawa with Kunimi he NEVER saw Kunimi smile in a game during THREE FUCKING YEARS despite the fact that Kunimi probably likes volleyball, Kunimi never played to his full potential either. Neither did Kindaichi.

That must mean he’s a bad person right?

Right

No he’s a fucking blueberry cinnamon roll I adore him, but if you’re going to judge Oikawa for the mistake he made as a thirteen year old and that’s your entire argument for why he’s a horrible person and needs to go to hell, you have to judge Kageyama as a thirteen year old, and he was a tyrannical little shit.
