As well as many interesting kura, Kitakata has some great Taisho- and Showa-era buildings. We spent a whole day exploring the town...

Lunch too, was possibly the best ramen we've had in ages.

上二枚は奥会津の大内宿。 一番下はモーツァルトを聴かせて熟成させる事で話題になった小原酒造。 ここでは土産に酒を二本ほど買った。

大内宿の成り立ちについては会津若松と日光今市を結ぶ街道の宿場であったという事以外、実はあまりわかっていない。 こういった宿場には必ずあり、資料にも記されている事が多い本陣も不明になっていて、何やらミステリアスな観光地でもある。 町並みはよく保存され、ほとんどが土産物を販売する店舗になっているのは仕方ないが、茅葺屋根や舗装されていない道なども往時の面影を彷彿とさせる。 ここは高遠そばが有名で、ぼくも食したが、その話は別の投稿に。
