Kitashi Updates - 4/19/23

Well, it has certainly been awhile lol Hello there! How’s everyone doing?

I’ve honestly avoided tumblr for a long time, only peeking in here and there when I have gotten the occasional tag from some very sweet people who still read & recommend my old fics. I’m actually not even sure I’m making a good choice posting now. It’s been over 5 years since ACOWAR & a lot has happened in my life. My last actual Update post that wasn’t a reblog (which was from like, what, 2017???) unexpectedly ended up documenting one of those life changing moments where your whole world turns upside down for the better. The ‘Rhysand Archeron’ player character I met while leveling up my gatherers in FFXIV (which this game is the reason my backlog of games now rivals my backlog of books 😓) had our first date less than 4 months after that post 😅 We’ve been together ever since & have been as happy as can be (though he goes by a different character name these days) 💜

The reason I’m here though is because of a few friends and family of mine (including 2 who asked me less than 12 hours apart & have no connection to each other) out of the blue about a week ago asked me, “Have you read/heard of ACOTAR?” 🤔

*cue manic laughter*

To make a long story much shorter & not bore you, after discussing with a few of them, I agreed to give the graphic audiobooks of ACOTAR, ACOMAF, & possibly ACOWAR a shot, to see if anything has changed for me in all this time. And some things clearly never do, because I made it to approximately the end of Chapter 4 of ACOTAR before I got inspiration for a fanfic. From Nesta’s POV of all things.

I’m nothing if not a glutton for punishment lol

I can’t promise how this will all go. I’m honestly very hesitant. But I’m willing to give it a second chance & see where it takes me.

I came home from work to a surprise early birthday package full of Sailor Moon, Alice in Wonderland, & Ravenclaw, & the most adorable dang card from one of the sweetest people I've ever been blessed to know. @illyriantremors is the best Threadsister ever, end of story, & I'm so glad I met her. I ❤️💜 you Sierra! 😘

KitashiUpdates 6/16/17 - Happy & Productive :)

Today has been such a lovely day! I had to work late last night due to a department hosted event (which was also fun), but in exchange I got to go home early today because I reached my cap for my hours this week. So I took full advantage of this & 1) got HUGE inspiration for my novel sequel-prequel (thanks to Florence + the Machine) on my drive home, 2) went to lunch with my sister @gekigami98 who gave me even MORE good ideas & kindly acted as my scribe while I drove so I wouldn't forget the things we talked about, 3) got all my weekend errands done, 4) spent quality time with my sister, & 5) helped with her novel planning as well.

And now I have 3 1/2 pages of bullet points in my notebook from this afternoon (& growing!), & my dad came home from his work trip in time for Father's Day & surprised us with McFlurrys.

I haven't had this good of a day in awhile. This is a nice feeling 😌

Kitashiupdates: Reading & Writing Updates! 6/9/17

Hi everyone! I know I've been a bit quiet around here these days. Not going to lie, ACOWAR really took the wind out of my sails for reading & writing both, & coupled with work, it's not been conducive for productivity. But I'm trying find to happier things. That's not to say I will stop writing ACOTAR fic. In fact, I have some written, but I honestly haven't been able to bring myself to post it or finish ones I started before I read ACOWAR. Though there may be some Lucien & Tarquin POVs for ACOWAR fic (both are started), I'll probably focus on either the first two books or AU if I write anymore.

IN HAPPIER NEWS: I finished Windwitch by @stdennard, & I absolutely loved it. 😍 I need Bloodwitch to be out yesterday. I need to know what happens to my loves, & I can't wait until January!

I'm starting reading The Raven Boys by @maggie-stiefvater in the meantime (which I'm very much looking forward to, because it has taken me long enough to pick this up & see what the hubbub is all about) & working on some things for my own novel project Memory Book that hopefully will pan out. FYI: Florence + the Machine is excellent for story inspiration.

Kitashi Updates: 4/27 - Ending Hiatus

So I lasted less than a week. And came back to my fandom in turmoil, misery, & general chaos. I read the Overdrive chapters, & I loved them. I was really excited last night, & felt like I could be excited for Tuesday again. And then I saw a specific spoiler that some people are discussing, but I won’t go into detail here because I promised no blatant spoilers & I meant it (though most people who follow me & know some of what I post can likely hazard a guess), & honestly, I didn’t think it was possible, but ACOWAR may end up on my Most Hated Books list. (I’m still putting it under a cut, because the spoiler is implied).

It takes a lot for me to put a book on that list. The author has to do something completely unnecessary to their plot or characters that it invalidates something of worth in the story or is honestly just so utterly sickening or damaging that I have lost the ability to even (like abusive relationships, for example). The top three on this list up to this point have been Allegiant by Veronica Roth (for that ending mostly, but really the whole book if I’m honest), Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (for completely invalidating the entire reason why Katniss went into the games with that ending), & Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer for the entire damn book being an unnecessary train wreck. I expected to say the 4th entry was going to be King's Cage by Victoria Aveyard, because of how Glass Sword ended and what could potentially be in the third book once I read it. Not a book in a series that has been the source of many joys over the last year, including meeting one of the best friends I could ever ask for & countless other people, & has helped me actually write again.

I am tempted to say that I will not believe the spoiler until I see it in print, in my hands, on Tuesday. The page in question to me seems rushed, poorly written, and even more poorly executed. But I’m preparing myself for it to be true. And depending how the book goes, that could propel ACOWAR straight to the top of the list I never thought I’d see it on.

The irony is that ACOMAF tops my Most Beloved Books list. What are the odds?

I’m ending my hiatus early, so I’ll be around again (though I’m not sure anyone really cared that I was gone in the first place or probably even noticed). But I’m honestly just very down right now, so I’ll probably go back to reading Windwitch by Susan Dennard and trying to distract myself, or working on a fic from when things actually made damn sense in this series.

Kitashi Updates: 4/22/17 - ACOWAR PSA

Okay, I'm going to follow suit with some my other fic writing peeps on here & do an ACOWAR PSA.

Once the book comes out, if I have anything spoilerific to say, I will tag those posts with "ACOWAR Spoilers", & I will put the content under a read more cut. I am a fast reader, so chances are I'll be done with a first read through of the book in a day or two (job permitting), but since I don't tend to live blog, I won't be posting reactions as I read.

With that said, due to hearing about people getting spoilers & such, starting tomorrow (April 23) at around 9am PST, I will be on hiatus until May 3rd*. All fic posting & general content updates will resume after that, but I figure, if this book is going to consume another year of my life, I should attempt to give myself at least a small break (maybe finish Truthwitch finally, or some of my many other books that have been sitting neglected on my Kindle). I'm not looking to get spoiled before I read lol

If there is anything big you want to message me beforehand, please do so, but after that point, hope to see you on May 3rd*! :)

*I'm giving myself an extra day because of reading the book, but that is subject to change lol

All right peeps, signing off until May 3rdish! I already finished Truthwitch (which is amazing & you all should read it oh my goodness), so my plan is to get LOTS more reading done before ACOWAR comes out (I am highly optimistic). Reminder, anything spoilerific I post will be under read more cuts & tagged as "ACOWAR Spoilers" if you want to blacklist or anything.

Kitashi Updates 2-25-17

Current plan: I'm almost finished with my final edits, so Chapter 2 of my Tarquin fic Wave Upon the Sand should be coming sometime tomorrow :)
