The Summoner! One of my favorite classes in Final Fantasy Tactics even though they were complete balls balance wise. Fun fact, they're the reason my Summoner has a green cloak.
what is that unicorn horn thing
Kurama from Naruto was the inspiration for the race and coloring while Robin from Batman dictated the completely white eyes. It looks like Summoner is wearing a mask.
I always drew them with a bow as I imagined them summoning different mythical beasts or animals to aid them in combat. They would fight up close as Summoner would fight from a distance. Which tripped me up several times the more I thought about it. In a world with anthro animals; what counts as an animal animal? If I said “There are wolf bandits outside!”, would I mean bandits that are anthro wolves or actual quadruped wolves? Would the quadruped wolves have human intelligence? Enhanced animal intelligence? What is Summoner summoning?
As I was thinking about it, the Conjuration spells from the Elder Scrolls series came to mind. You could summon spirits, wolves, elementals, swords, shields, axes, the undead (even though that’s a necromancer thing), and even armor. That’s a wiiiiide range of abilities. Having Summoner stick to beasts felt restrictive once I thought on it.
Since I couldn’t decide on what counts as a “beast”, I decided not to give them a recognizable familiar with their design. What can they summon? Just about anything they learn how to. What they manifest will always have an expiration time though, and may not be as reliable as normal equipment or real allies.
