I am safe to finally say this is how my River will look like in each step 🥹 (made it height accurate too). Previous arts are pretty much random because I haven't made my mind up on River's actually design so I kinda just draw him however I want.

Ok so River's design had always used color symbolism but I pressed it further into this art. I'll make this quick, so for River, red represents his uh 'real' self, his courage and whimsiness 💔 (further info is in the pinned post 😭) while I chooses blue but not as in calming, but as sorrowful and emotional coldness. As you can see in step 1, colors are pretty much balanced here and there, black and white represent neutral emotions. And addition! Yellow, you might not see it, but his eyes are yellow, kind of golden, but it's originally yellow. I took yellow as representation of deceit and hypocrisy, not as in joy or cheerfulness.

In step 2 though, River is completely washed out with blue and neutral colors, no red in sight and his eyes seemed to be yellower than ever. You can guess it, he masks his real self even further because he's sure people would stray away from him if he just acts however he wants, and River doesn't want to be disliked, he want people to like him and to not worry about him no matter what it takes, he wouldn't even care if the person is just using him and doesn't genuinely want to be with him. He just wasn't sure if anything could change anymore and he managed to convince himself no one could help him get better. The amount of black and white (neutrality) made him 'plain' and numb. He just acts cheery and joyful so yeah, people wouldn't worry.

But in step 3, red basically overtook the color palette, even his blue hair was intertwining with red. A new color was added, brown, his boots are brown, yes. This time I took the positive symbolism of brown, which is stability and warmth (assumption...) because well, River clearly had found it. The neutral colors are pushed down to almost none, River wasn't afraid to show who he's really is. Yet yellow still makes it to the frame, in the buttons and even his eyes still, of course. He's still a hypocrite in some ways or another, but maybe it's just because deceit had always been one of River's nature in his heart.

I will definitely make updates about this man's personality gosh.

Introducing another scug, The Rake!

It was taking me forever to finish this one because I wasn't happy with the previous colors, and so it had to go back to the drawing board. Some small details like how the claws or the fangs work might change. My lovely spec-bio friend is helping me iron it out, but it'll do for reference purposes for now!

I'm fully satisfied with the color design now :3c it shows better that the arms are not natural, they kinda stick out visually.

Info dump;

• Comes from a lineage that was consistently born with underdeveloped extra limbs, a genetic mutation persistent enough to carry over every generation onto at least one pup. However, pup mortality with such mutation was high. A curious Iterator, desperate to take his mind off of things, took notice to the pattern, and decided to experiment.

• Genetically modified to ensure its survival, although in rather crude ways. It is easier to make a designed organism from scratch than to re-design an already born one without harming it. The surgical procedures have left its skin hyperpigmented as a side effect, especially around the "edited" parts.

• Rake is larger and sturdier than average slugcat, as well as slower and heavier. Due to the fore-limbs being so close together it's rather top-heavy and doesn't like to stand up on its hind legs. The size is actually mostly a disadvantage; vultures would struggle to pick it up and it does look intimidating, but there are many small pipes or crevices it can't fit into, and you can forget about ever flying a squidcada.

• It could use weapons if it wanted to, but it's pretty well equipped as it is. Short-range damage from the strong and clawed arms, combined with sharp fangs and powerful bite force. (Unclear if naturally inherited or genetically modified by the Iterator)

The discolored skin is thick and hard to penetrate, can block weaker spear throws.

• Lower intensity energy but long-term high endurance- it may not outpace the prey but it will outlast it, persistently stalking it until it gets exhausted and cannot run anymore. Prey being whatever is smaller than it.

• Can go for a long time without food, very slow metabolism. Hibernating on low food is nothing out of the ordinary here.

• Due to its strange situation it grew to be quite fearless, there are not that many threats for it. Scavengers fear it, regular vultures don't bother, and it easily overpowers many lizards.

• It likes quiet and peace, therefore it prefers to be alone. It does not hunt, nor attack other slugcats unprovoked though.

• It does not have the mark of communication (yet!) as the iterator wanted to keep the experiment clinical.

My art style has changed a bit since my last post, which is why it might look so different compared to the original portrait of her. I've also changed the type of brush i use for rendering!

Natalia Yeon!!

Family(+1 other) information!

Natalia speaks mostly Korean but is semi fluent in English, she can definitely hold a conversation in English well, whether that conversation is spoken perfectly in English or not really depends on their mood. Amazing at reading and writing in English though!! You'd think she was fluent based on her reading and writing level.

Her mother named her 'Natalia' after her best friend, who she has been friends with since the two of them were as young as 10!! She made a promise to name her first born after her when they were 13! Her mother mostly speaks Korean and she doesn't know much English.

Her father spent most time working, Work was very demanding but despite this he still made time for his family and helped his wife around the house when he could, helping with most dinners even while being tired from work! Her father speaks mostly Korean but is pretty much fluent in English.

They did quite well for themselves, a simple way to put it is, her family is loaded. They also have a family dog that i have yet to name or even decide on the breed.

She has a Younger brother who is currently twenty-one years old! He has a fiance and is expecting a kid. He mostly speaks english. but is fluent in Korean.

Something that worked out great is the Mc in bbd not liking red because as I've researched Koreans generally don’t like red. It represents death and violence in Korea. Writing one’s name in red is an especially big cultural taboo. You want to piss off a Korean, write their name in red ink in front of the person.

I plan on drawing her family next starting with her brother and his fiance!!

I have to find names for them all 😭 They are currently all just Natalia's (insert family title)

I'm gonna be honest i kinda forgot about the red thing both with bbd itself and that in Korean culture it considered an unlucky colour when designing her clothes and flower tattoo🫪😬 (the hairs intentional)

I recently got a tablet and stylus!! So I won't be drawing with my small ass phone and finger!! GO MEE!! Because I like making my life more difficult, I've decided to change her clothing and hairstyles with each drawing, (totally not because I'm never capable of being consistent with my artworks, and they definitely don't look different everytime)

My art style will continue to change each time i draw i fear, I can't help it😭 it will stay mostly the same but with some differences in maybe the eye or head shape.

The story/universe is titled Fruit Salad ! :D it came to mind because fruit andddd like cuz salad is made of vegetablesss I dunno bleh

All the fruits (stella, Owen, Bailey, Alex) were friends and all the vegetables (Callum, char, Chloe, Perrin) were friends before the main story starts aka before the 2 groups met :3

Callum, Charlotte, Chloe & Perrin are all in a band called Crusade

Callum has a younger sister named Cassidy/Cas (currently 17) who LOVES all things horror. She still mainly lives with her and callum's grandmother and takes care of her, but often travels on road in a camper van with a few friends and explores abandoned buildings !!

The story takes place in a small town in Canada. Not sure where. Just in Canada. Maybe I'll figure out exactly where one day.

Most people in town can recognize eachother. It's a pretty small area, but very lively. The town is in between 2 large cities so they will often get people stopping by. It's small enough that you could walk across town in about an hour and a half or 2 with traffic, but large enough that they have a train system.

All fruits & veggies will develop like the actual real thing does. Ex: strawberries will start as white flowers, some vegetables will change colour. In the same way, when they get older they start to darken, leaves die, etc.

After a show, crusade will typically all sneak in to the café where Char works after hours and she'll cook them all dinner or dessert. She typically doesn't get to cook much on the job so she loves getting the chance to experiment in the kitchen

Their town has a very low crime rate because all the criminals are in the big cities

Perrin has lived between multiple different foster families since birth, never stuck with the same one for more than a year due to being a "problem child", he doesn't believe he has an actual family, but they consider all their friends his found family

Stella and alex's mom is an apple and dad is a strawberry. They are both very very friendly and loving and joyous. Their bloodline is Mexican, but all 4 living in the house mainly just speak english except for talking to their grandparents

Perrin and Char both drive motorcycles and will often drive around town together

Perrin and Stella both have dogs that they walk together, stella's is the family dog but she will often go over to her parents house to walk the dog. Perrin's dog is very small and will sometimes accompany them on his motorcycle, Stella's is a huge Bernese mountain dog

Perrin has diagnosed ADHD, Owen has diagnosed autism, and Chloe is undiagnosed but almost certainly neurodivergent. Alex may also have ADHD but he doesn't like to think about it

Most flags besides Canada in the character profiles are just where their ancestors originate, most were born and raised in Canada. However Bailey moved from the Philippines when she was a preteen, Chloe moved from Japan when she was 5, and Char moved from France for college before dropping out and just decided to stay in Canada

Owen has a hamster named hamster

Chloe and char were already together ahead of the plot, but the others happen over the course of the story
