the storm chase you even on days sun burns your face
the gridanian poetress part. II
"Think by the third of March, I was cracked open Finally, the ground was cold, they wouldn't open Brought by the sunlight of the spirit to pour into me There's a name for it in japanese, it's 'Kitsungi'..."
Lei che non resta, lei mi detesta
E spara, amore spara, dritto in testa
Prima che l’inverno si rivesta
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as Kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
I have a thing about mugs. I really love the ones made by this potter, Sarah House. I think we have about 6 of them between @spinningprincess and me. And then 2 of them fulfilled some bizarre suicide pact and broke at the same time. The breaks were clean so figured why not superglue them and see if it works. So far so good. Then @justjaimenoel reminded me of kitsungi: the Japanese art of adding gold leaf when pottery is glued back together- a reminder that the breaks can be beautiful: an important part of the ceramic’s history. Emily McDowell has an Empathy card I’ve loved enough to buy several times that illustrates this. Now I have my very own beautiful metaphor. I’m not exactly happy the mug broke but I am absolutely excited to see if the glue holds. Because I think it’s beautiful.
I'm still waiting for the sun
To fill in the parched flaky cracks
Of a suppressed and oppressed desire
Within me
But everyday when I wake up
I only see the remnants
of a frigid beaver moon
And a clutter of meager stars
Trying to evince their scant
Wavering beams of light
That refuses or loses
it's dwindling glimmer
As it falls upon my skin
All the time
Even the muted glow
of a distant sunset
Fails to seep into my eyes
Through the shields of
So many opaque windows
Engaged in the battle against
A wet wintry cold outside
How then, can I hope
For an indispensable yet elusive warmth
To grace my body and mind
