all hell breaks loose 5 recap
So read under the cut for my highlights of AHBL Melbourne which I am struggling to believe that it's already been a week! I talk about my photo ops which can be found on my photo op page.
ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE V - JUNE 1ST 2014
The day started with a breakfast meet up at Thresherman's Bakery across the road from the venue. It was a freezing morning but seeing old friends and meeting new friends before the con started was a lot of fun and then we all walked over to the venue together. Since I've started going to conventions, I've met a lot of new friends and trying to see them all through out the day was quite hard. Some people I hung out with more than others which made me feel bad but because there's sooooooo much going on over the course of the day it's understandable you can't see everyone.
Photo ops: I decided on the spur of the moment to get a Misha photo op and that was pretty standard, walk in, quick hello and a warm hug and then a see ya later but just being in Misha's presence is amazing and he was totally rocking the blue suit jacket!!
Up next were Matt and Richard, I was sharing my Matt photo with Megan so we went in and asked if we could have a Matt Sandwich and he's like, yeah cool where am I? So of course he was the meat in our sandwich and loved it and even the photographer said that that's the best kind of meat in a sandwich haha.
Now the way Hub runs it's photo ops is a bit like a production line, they'll have the three photo booths set up and if you're getting all three you stay in the one line and then proceed to have each photo. Because I wasn't having a Mark photo, Megan and I could skip straight to Matt's. After Matt's, I was sharing a photo op with Richard with Angie. I was standing in line for Richard's (as Mark hadn't started yet he had no one in his line) and told the volunteer that my friend was just there in Mark's line, could I grab her but she said if she's got other tokens she needed to go through system they had so I was just to wait for her. This actually worked out in my favour because I got to have a quick chat with Richard. He was standing near the table on his phone so this is how our convo went...
Me: Are you texting again Richard? Richard: when am I not texting haha but I was just retweeting this picture, check these girls out! (as he's talking he's walking over to me and shows me a photo of two girls dressed as Casa Erotica Gabriel and I happened to know these girls) Me: I know those girls, that's my friend who I drove in with this morning! You'll have just totally made her day! Richard: do you like my tweets? Me: yeah but Rob's reputation is still intact (running joke that Rob hates Perth and Richard had tweeted him about ruining his reputation) Richard: so you think I've gotta do better hey? *chuckle* so is this your first con? Me: no, I've been to a couple now, I actually went to Vancouver last year Richard: oh yeah, Vancouver's beautiful city! Me: yeah I loved it! And we're actually planning a trip to Dallas for the convention next year. Richard: Dallas is great, very different to Vancouver. Me: yeah but it's in the school holidays and being a Primary school teacher it's what I'm restricted to Richard: *looks confused* when's Dallas again? Me: in September Richard: *still confused* and when are your holidays? Me: in September Richard: so when do you start? Me: end of January Richard: and when do you finish? Me: in December, we still get the summer holidays off over Christmas but we're opposite to you guys.
And then there were people waiting for his photo op and I was still waiting for Angie. When she got to his line, I said to Richard 'we can finally get our photo now!' and he's like 'oh were we waiting for her, come on then' so we went and got a warm hug photo which I love!
My last photo was the whole group photo. I hadn't had one of these before so was a bit nervous about it and having all of them in the one spot! I had seen the setup for group photos: 3 chairs in the front and you sit in the middle, one either side of you and then the other standing behind you. The guys are already sitting/standing so you just go in and sit down. I've seen some photos turn out quite boring (in that they're just sitting there like a family photo) so I went in and said could we please do something funny but I don't know what. At the time I didn't know what they were doing as I'm staring at the camera but I felt Misha trying to strangle me with my necklace haha. And then it was done!
Upon picking up the photos I realised my group photo wasn't completely in focus, it was a bit blurry. After spending quite a bit of money for the photo I wanted a sharp one so I asked the staff and they organised for the guests to hang back after their autographs and to do a re-take which I am so grateful for! The staff member I was talking to told me to go wait in the photo area and sit in the seat ready to go for when the guys came. So it was pretty awkward just sitting there with the photographer and two other ladies who needed re-takes. Then the guys come down with Mandy (Matt's wife) with them and I think it was Corin who said 'oh so you're the one' and then proceeds to come stand behind me, give me a bit of a neck/shoulder tickle and then a hug from behind before declaring he'll 'hang out here' (aka the seat to my right) while Matt sits next to me and I ask him if he's recovered from Angie earlier (that story needs a note of it's own but if you know her you'll have heard about it already) and he's like 'no! I'm trying not to think about it or I'll start bawling again' and one of the others asked why he was bawling and Matt's like 'oh yeah man I was bawling my eyes out during autographs, she's just a fucking nice person' and then the other guys had gotten into position and Mandy was trying to step back and Misha was trying to pull her in and I was like 'yeah please be in it' so Misha just sweeps her off her feet and stands behind Matt who has his head of my shoulder and then the photo was done.
I thanked them all for coming back to retake the shot and then I had to hang around for them to print it out but had to wait until the other two girls had had their photos redone. Got to have a quick chat with Mandy, I told her that Angie had talked about her a lot and that we were excited to meet her because of that and how Angie was right and she is just awesome and she's like 'oh so I didn't photobomb your photo then?' and I told her I was completely fine with it. She asked me if I was from Melbourne and if I could suggest anything for them to see while they were out here so having a mental blank I went with Eureka Tower and the Skydeck, she sounded very interested in that but she wasn't well so pretty sure they just rested before flying out. Mark then pulled her into a conversation and the guys were slowly starting to make their way back to the green room and after 10mins I got my new photo which is AMAZEBALLS!!
So that's my photo ops recap.
After photos was lunch and one group of friends had decided to have a picnic and the spot we picked happened to be out the front of the green room so we had all the guys walk past and look at us and one of them made a comment like 'that's a pretty good spread you got there' but unfortunately we couldn't tempt any of them to join us lol!
I also won Matt's shirt at the auction which was pretty cool so they give you an autograph token so they can personalise it for the winner. This was the only autograph I got and as it was after Angie's experience when I went to the table I said 'now this is a bit underwhelming compared to that' and his response was 'no, don't lessen what you did, this is amazing' and then signed it and that was it, he was still pretty emotional after Angie so wasn't expecting much but I thought that was really sweet. (the money from the auction goes to the Starlight Children's Foundation which helps sick kids and me being a Primary school teacher, it hit home how precious kids are which is why I bid, although it being Matt's shirt which he had put on and did push ups in helped too lol)
Karaoke that night was ok but made so much better just by the presence of Richard and Matt! Rosie and I got to sing "don't stop me now" by Queen which Rosie picked, but I didn't know that well so pretty much freaked out when they guys said the machine wasn't working, that the lyrics weren't showing up. To fix things, I used Rosie's phone and got the lyrics up so I wouldn't make an utter fool of myself in front of everyone. When we got up Rosie said something to Matt and I said to Richard 'I don't know the song so you'll have to help me' and his response was 'god speed, good luck' and I said I did come prepared so he made a joke about if you were coming up to BYOL (bring your own lyrics haha). And then commence singing and Matt having an arm around each our shoulders and squinting at the phone, then taking the phone off me so he could hold it and when it came to a certain part he's like "there's la la la's coming up, la la la's" and then turns the phone around as if the crowd could read it haha. Oh and then guitar solo where Matt was totally lost and oh it was just amazing and I'm so glad Rosie let me sing with her!!
So that's pretty much my highlights of my interactions with the guys (being able to hang out with friends was a totally different matter and I miss them all already!) I am so thankful to Supernatural for so many things, I've gained confidence meeting new people (including celebrities I admire), I've made a lot of life long friends and I've sung karaoke in public twice and that's definitely something I never thought I'd do!
