The little part 2 as promised ;)
Part 1 ->
keith and krolia on the space whale, passing by thousands of memories; keith sees his dad, for the first time in years, and cant help but wonder
"how'd you do it?" he asks, and krolia turns around
"do what?"
keith looks at his own memories, full of shiro, and the team, and, most importantly, lance
"how'd you manage to leave without... without breaking your heart?"
"the same way you did"
"but i didnt" keith says, and she just hums in response, no longer looking at him
oh, he thinks.
like mother, like son
The lights dimmed on the Atlas hours ago, but Keith and Lance were still on the observation deck. Beyond the glass, the stars drifted by slowly, a constant blur that got a bit dizzying if Lance stared too long. A bottle of bitter liquor sat between them, its potent smell encapsulating the two.
He flicked his gaze to Keith, who was tugging mindlessly at the hem of his glove, face stoic and eyes a stormy violet in the soft glow.
"How do you always do it?" The other murmured, eyes still fixed on the stars outside.
Lance cocked an eyebrow. "Do what?"
"Everyone loves you," Keith said simply, with a small shrug. "Even the annoying parts of you. It's like breathing for you, or something."
Lance huffed a laugh. "No, it's not like that at all. It's more that I play into what people expect from me. If they knew what was truly underneath that charade... they wouldn't love me at all," he finished quietly, averting his gaze.
Keith's hand inched towards Lance. His skin tingled as Keith grazed the side of his pinky. "I don't think that's true."
A million reasons why it was sat on the tip of his tongue, but instead he exhaled softly, as if letting those doubts dissipate into the stale, recycled air.
Lance hooked his fingers around Keith’s, his only oxygen source on this whole goddamn ship.
Out there, they had to be the red and blue paladins of Voltron, the leader and his right hand man.
But in here? They could just be Keith and Lance. Whatever they were to each other. Something that only existed in the precious place between friendship and love. Something that only existed amongst the stars, that Lance hoped as they shedded the remants of a galactic war, would instead follow them into whatever life they led after.
Lance laced his fingers through Keith’s, fabric meeting skin. For now, he was comfortable in this space, and if Keith could choose him, flaws and all, maybe he could too.
klangst (?) edit that I forgot to post here heh…
