View Tube Christmas closing times

The View Tube and Container Cafe are closed for a well earned Christmas break from 24th December.  We'll be back bright eyed and bushy tailed from 3rd January 2012, where you can catch the last few weeks of Tomas Klassnik and Riitta Ikonen's exhibition 'From Factories to Flowers', as part of the Sparked exhibition series.

Some of the seed cards and seed garden matchboxes created by those who took part in Sparked's first family day on Saturday 3 December.  The artists, Riitta Ikonen and Tomas Klassnik, plus the volunteers helping out were kept busy all day with a constant stream of families taking advantage of the free art workshops on offer.  Many asked for more sessions to be available at View Tube, lucky for them, and you, we've got two more Family Days coming up in 2012!

We saw over 50 people through our art workshop sessions with Olympic artists Riitta Ikonen and Tomas Klassnik. We'll post up more photos soon, but a massive thanks to everyone who came down, the volunteers that helped out, the stall holders at the Christmas Market and Museum of London Docklands, who bought some fascinating artefacts with them found at the park.

Answers from activity sheet - only peek if you've already done it!

1. There are 8 buttons in the grey sculpture.  Buttons are present in the sculpture as their used to be a Haberdashery and fabric trimming company on the site, using ribbons, buttons, wool, snaps and string

2. A dog can be found in the sculpture.  This is because there used to be guard dogs on the site, protecting the business and people who lived there.

3. Send in a photo or scan of your drawing of the trapeze artists, who used to do circus training on the site! [email protected]

4. A woodwork fabricator company used to produce replica Victorian cabinets and tables, as well as beautiful Grandfather Clocks

5. There are all sorts of flowers of different colours, we've listed a few below, but send in any different ones you have to [email protected] and we'll add them in!

Red flowers: poppy, rose, tulip, red gerbera daisy, red lily, red orchid, red carnation, peony

Orange flowers: Bird of Paradise, tiger lily, snapdragon, gerbera, marigold, chrysanthemum, freesia,

Yellow flowers: sunflower, daffodil, tulip, rose, Hawaiian hibiscus, orchid, Queen Victoria Calla lily, carnation, cornflower, forsythia, iris,

Blue flowers: lavendar, forget-me-nots, pansy, blue-bells, hyacinth, cornflower

White flowers: daisy, rose,  camellia, hydrangea, gerbera, magnolia flower, jasmine flower, lily of the valley, hyacinth, cherry blossom

6. The seedbrush (or biological drawing device) is made from willow

7. There are 29 seed dispensers on the 'biological drawing device'. Some have been refilled, whilst others are now empty from their previous journeys, which you can watch here
