Still life with Calla lilies from the garden in a vintage @kleinreid tall green vase, against a wall made of convict brick*. Light. Shadows. Colours. Textures. Juxtaposition. (🎶”..these are a few of my favourite things..”🎶) 😂 *Convict Bricks were made by incarcerated brickmakers working in gangs at the Brickfields (now the area of Central Railway Station in Sydney) The convicts dug up the clay, and then moulded, fired and delivered the bricks in their thousands every day. ... In the 1820s all government bricks were marked with a broad arrow to make them identifiable and to prevent theft by the convicts. All of these convict bricks were salvaged from old houses and factories in the city. I was thinking about painting over them (they’re very dated looking) but it makes me sad when I think about the human hands that touched and made these bricks. A change of perspective. The angle at which you look at something can change everything about it. I pass this group of objects on the countertop every day, and I haven’t really looked at them closely in a very long time. Lockdown has changed that. Not being able to go anywhere isn’t all bad. It forces you to take a different perspective on the way you see things, and the world around you. (this is something @gut_and_mob commented upon in a recent post) Ettore Sottsass bowl from the Hollywood series for Bitossi Ceramiche. An old milk bottle (excavated from the garden with a a current propagation growing inside. Nimbus “Halo” bowl, and Prime “Emily” bowl; both by the lovely and talented guys @Kleinreid... and a leftover ceramic tile from a bathroom renovation.
