Now that she’s solved it, I can share this. Presenting my puzzling present for my clue crew pen pal!

I thought of it for Christmas 2017 and realized I didn’t give myself enough time to make it, so this really was about a year of planning for Christmas 2018.

Small gifts are inside the jar, but the jar is padlocked. Steps must be taken to open the jar. A booklet with hints was on hand for any lack of clarity.

Put together the puzzle for a decoder key

Decode the letter’s substitution cipher

Use the International Communication Alphabet to pull out a secret phrase (ROYAL FLUSH)

Make a royal flush with the deck of cards. The shape of the puzzle is a clue for card suit.

The number stickers on the back of the cards make a combination

Open the padlock with the combination and unpack the treasure

Maybe I’ll keep going with similar puzzles (or not), but I was proud of what I put together this time. Real respect for all the rich eccentrics from the Nancy Drew games with the patience and resources to put together their own treasure hunts.

Pick a sailor: Holt (DDI) or Gunnar (SEA)?

You know how the clue crew says Henrik in SSH is hot despite being 61? That’s how I feel about Holt Scotto. He’s really chiseled and tan and broad chested. I don’t care that he’s irritable about the lighthouse and can’t solve a simple chess puzzle - he’s a good guy and I’d vote for him. 

Gunnar is the least likable thing in an ND game since Abdullah in TMB. I effing hate every conversation with him and who he is as a character. I want to snatch that filleting knife away from him, gut him with it, and push his bleeding ass into the freezing water. sorry not sorry

@kleptonancydrew signed me up for a treasure hunt! It was challenging at times and intuitive at others; there was one aspect that involved some very tricky folding that I just couldn’t get to lay correctly so my mom looked at the online hints so I wouldn’t see more than necessary to figure it out. But I solved it! And now there’s a part 2!

It’s called mobileescape.ca if anyone else is interested. Thank you, Anne, for the awesome present that took me a month of off and on focus (plus the sidequest of Picture of Megan’s website puzzles) to solve. It was exactly like something Nancy Drew would have to do in any of the books or games!

     Oh my how do I choose....I really like ancient Egypt, the renaissance, colonial america up through the 1940's, and the ancient maya.....oh I can't decide!
