Klimke - Cavaletti
Sorry that my posts haven't been very upbeat or biomechanical recently! With the recent madness at a lot of dressage competitions, I'd like to blog about a book which should be used in every rider's training.
I've heard Reiner Klimke's 'Cavaletti' referred to as the dressage rider's bible, and I think it is an excellent guide for all riders, whether they do dressage or not! The various exercises with ground poles, cavalettis and gymnastic jumping are best alongside straightness training and are really helpful for pretty much everything! Klimke uses a straightforward, easy-to-understand style which is easily described to the reader, along with diagrams, so that you know exactly what to do.
I would definitely recommend 'Cavaletti' to anyone, whether they ride dressage or not. Read it. Now.
The horse is the best teacher, but you must really open your heart and feel.

This is the same horse and rider pair from that gif I reblogged the other day, of the super smooth, light tempi changes. I think lightness is just the best way to describe this pair- Ahlerich is full of energy, you can really see it in every step, yet he remains light, relaxed and supple. Just look at his bright expression! Dressage needs to go back to this.
