How do you think the match Vorpal swords and Jabberwock will play out? Lot of people have said that GOM will destroy them but Himuro said that they(Jabberwock) might be better then them.
The short answer is Vorpal Swords will win. :P
Eheh, no seriously, it’s just that it seems highly unlikely for Fujimaki to go so far as to have Jabberwock humiliate the senpai and criticize Japanese basketball, then bring GoM out for a revenge match, even have Kagetora say he’ll commit seppuku (still not over that, lol) only to have them lose (I will seriously be worried about Kagetora; that’s even worse than Akashi’s eye-gouging thing).
But that’s probably not what you were asking. ^^; So my second short answer is, I’m personally iffy about it being an easy slaughter, tbh. Win yes, totally destroyed no. Not to mention, if Fujimaki’s record is anything to go by, it could turn out to be a very close game (but I really really don’t want to see any more buzzer beaters please thank you).
And now for the long answer. I hope you were aware of my rambling skillz when you asked me this, anon. This became a monster reply before I knew it.
I’m going to assume that gameplay and rules for the Vorpal Swords vs Jabberwock match will be like the senpai game, which appears to be some kind of streetball/regular basketball hybrid, because I reckon things would go a bit differently if they were to play a standard game.
So if all bets are off and they’re going to be playing with a bunch of flashy tricks and moves that would normally be fouls, Aomine, Kagami, and Himuro would probably have the most advantage, at least in the beginning, since these three have extensive experience with streetball. I feel like part of the reason senpai lost so badly was because they were completely ill-prepared for the stunts Jabberwock pulled on them. I mean, their skills may not be on par with GoM as a whole, but 6 points? D:
The truth is, while Jabberwock may be full of the crazies, GoM is no slacker in the bag of tricks department either. I’d think Jabberwock is in for some surprises of their own, just on the standard GoM moves alone - like Kise throwing their stunts back at them, Akashi doing his Emperor Eye or ankle-break thing, Midorima’s insane 3-pointers, not to mention how all of Kuroko’s moves would be in full effect again since Jabberwock has never seen them before.
(I am, however, a bit nervous about the possibility of Kuroko getting hurt by their rough plays since he’s physically much weaker than the rest of the lot, though I’ll admit there’s a part of me cackling in glee, imagining the potential reactions and what it might do to GoM’s gameplay if something like that does happen — and btw, when I say GoM, Kagami is lumped in there too!)
I do feel like Jabberwock would be pretty quick about adjusting accordingly though, so say, if GoM gets flashy and scores a bunch of baskets, it probably wouldn’t faze Jabberwock for long, and that’d be where the tough battle begins.
- For one, I doubt we’ve seen anywhere near their full range of skills (and it doesn’t look like they were playing that seriously against senpai either as they seemed to be more intent on taunting and humiliating than anything).
- And another, that little note during their introduction about how their strength frightens even NBA players sounds a tad foreboding. After all, tricks and “dirty play” are only going to take them so far if they didn’t have some serious basketball skills to back them up - and from that comment, I’m inclined to believe they definitely have the skills too. We’ve seen the dribbling already (and with Strky’s reactions, it sounds superior to Hayama’s Lightning Dribble), but that can’t be all?
- I actually think Himuro’s comment was the most optimistic part of it all. Although he took his words back, the fact that his initial reaction was “they’re on par with GoM” kinda made me feel like the GoM shouldn’t be toooo far off, that they’re at least in the same ballpark range.
Some more things to consider might be:
- At this point in time, it’s been well over 6 months since we last saw GoM+ play. They’re bound to have new tricks up their sleeves, not to mention an improvement in overall skill, so maybe we’ll end up seeing a whole bunch of new stuff from them as opposed to solely regurgitating moves we’ve already seen.
- Bench players… I’m honestly wondering how that’s going to work. To give them all (whoever they may be) their moment to shine, Extra Game would end up being much longer than a “not very long” thing — unless Fujimaki plans to sub them in and out like he did Seirin’s bench players during the final Rakuzan game. :S
- GoM teamwork has got to be no joke and LET US NOT FORGET THE POSSIBILITY OF TEAM ZONE. That could be their ultimate trump card if it’s going to happen at all.
- Fujimaki could either have GoM+ playing “honest” basketball with teamwork and using that as way of sending a message to counter Jabberwock’s style like how he had done throughout Kurobasu… or he could have GoM outright display their freakish innate abilities in streetball style, which would be awesome to see. (Though if Midorima or even Murasakibara starts busting out some crazy moves, I’m going to be screaming over here because can you imagine omg.)
Overall, there’s a ton of potential for exciting stuff that I can’t decide how it might happen, nor how I even want it to happen, really. ;_;
But of course, I may well be over-thinking all this and Fujimaki’s plan is to have a full-blown indulgent short story of Vorpal Swords doing the slaughter, whereby Jabberwock learns their lesson and paddles home with their tails between their legs…
THERE IS IMPLIED NAKED CONFESSIONS FOR SEIRIN'S I.H. LOSS!!
I'm still grinning over Strky, because yes cute name using the first letters of their high schools - but it's kind of extra cute for the fact that those aren't really their schools anymore. They've graduated after all. Sentimental much, senpai?
Fujimaki is possibly a fan of Lewis Carroll?
This is sounding more and more like a self-gratification id story, and for fan flailing purposes, not that I really mind. I'm just not sure I like how one-dimensionally evil Fujimaki made the U.S. team though...
ETA: Also, I wish the senpai game hadn't turned out so horribly, though I guess it's being used as a reason to bring the GoM out. Still, I was super excited that there would be a senpai team, but what we got was just wince-inducing. :\
The fact that Kagetora's English is supposedly so good that it surprised Hyuuga (and plus he's the guide for the U.S. Team) reminded me of Riko's own English ability. English Conversation is her best subject after all. I wonder if there's a backstory to that.
Bench members... please tell me Takao and Himuro will be on it (I think it's probably a given the Uncrowned will be on the bench). For that matter, please tell me Momoi will be there to do her thing too.
Vorpal Swords. This team (and hence the name) was created after Strky lost and Kagetora asked for a revenge match. Which means Vorpal Sword is likely a name they came up with as a direct message to the Jabberwock that they are going to slay them. (Someone apparently read Through the Looking Glass...)
ETA #2: If Shuutoku lost to Touou and Kaijou beat Yousen in the I.H. and it was implied that Seirin lost, I wonder if that means they lost to Rakuzan?
On the Strky players and the positions:
So if Kasamatsu played PG instead of Imayoshi, and assuming that Okamura and Miyaji played their old positions, that only leaves center and shooting guard left. With Higuchi's height, it doesn't seem like he'd be a center. Going by that, it appears the lineup goes like this:
Point Guard: Kasamatsu
Power Forward: Okamura
Small Forward: Miyaji
Shooting Guard: Higuchi
Center: Imayoshi
(Unless they shifted things around and had Okamura be center, which feels like it should make more sense, especially size-wise.)
