I'm out of it with a cold but stay with me on this stream of consciousness idea for fem!reader x robby x abbot -
Princess!reader who is the Kings youngest daughter, his favourite, who is late twenties and unmarried. Not for lack of trying though, you've entertained many suitors over the years, kings and princes and lords, but none have been the right fit. The King hasn't been too focused on you getting married since your older siblings are all married and have created appropriate alliances and the kingdom is thriving, there's been no rush. Except you should really be settling down at your age so the King is pushing more than he has before.
You want to be a good daughter and good Princess but all your suitors have either been older men who you've been able to see right through, they only see you as the object of 'Wife' and 'Mother to his children' and they don't care for you at all, just your body and your title, or they've been boys your age who are not smart enough or do not have enough emotional capacity to understand you or your needs or wants.
The other problem is that you are already in love, have been for years. You've tried your hardest in these past years to get over your feelings, to convince yourself it is a simple, naïve crush, but you know better, you're in love. And to make matters worse, you're in love with two men.
Sir Jack Abbot, fierce and loyal Knight in your fathers Guard, with his intense hazel eyes and strong arms. He's been tasked with protecting you since your early twenties, has been by your side for years, armed with his sword and devilish smile. He has kept you safe and conversed with you during your daily walks in the garden and been there to wipe your quiet tears when you are sad and lonely and there is no one around. For all his stoicism, Sir Abbot is an affectionate and warm hearted man.
You've also found yourself having fallen for Dr. Michael Robinavitch, the Royal Physician, with his tender hands and soft brown eyes. He's been the Royal Physician for the past 5 years, becoming well acquainted with you and your clumsiness. He has treated your injuries and ailments with striking competency and a light humor that always leaves you smiling. Dr. Robinavitch, kind hearted and lovely, always treats you as though you are just a regular woman, not a fancy prize or piece of art to stare at.
Neither of them roll their eyes or rebuke your questions about medicine or self-defense, rather they welcome and encourage your curious mind and always make time for you. Dr. Robinavitch gifts you books he thinks you'll like and Sir Abbot gives you a discrete dagger for your protection and teaches you how to use it. They chat with you about their travels and their education and take genuine interest in your thoughts and feelings and opinions.
Unfortunately they have meager lands and money, and titles that are deemed unworthy of a Princess. They are also almost as old as your father. There is no chance in heaven that your father would give his blessing to either man.
Not that they have any interest in you.
Except they do! You just don't see it! These two men are completely head over heels in love with the Princess and will forever be devoted to you. Sir Abbot and Dr. Robinavitch are best friends, like brothers, Sir Abbot had recommended Dr. Robinavitch for the Royal Physician position a few years ago, they care very much for the other. But their feelings for the Princess is something they keep to themselves, something they don't even share with each other. They grapple with their feelings and their guilt and their desire and their shame alone. They feel they have no right to love you, you are too young for them, you are a Royal and too high among society for them to reach.
But in those quiet moments in the garden or the library, the two men can't help but fall for you and your kindness, your laugh, your curiosity, your sincerity, your beautiful eyes and dazzling smile. You're not like the others on the Court, you see them. They are not their occupations, to be used how the Court sees fit, they are people to you. You value them as Michael and Jack, not their titles.
Finally, after years of putting it off, the King choses a suitor for his daughter. The man is a Prince from a seaside kingdom, he is a little older than you and he is pleasant (and not half bad to look at) but he is bland and boring. And he's not the men you want.
Having no choice, you let the man court you, much to the dismay of Sir Abbot and Dr. Robinavitch. Sir Abbot trails you throughout the courting, as he is duty bound to do, watching the way your smile fails to reach your eyes when the man looks at you. Dr. Robinavitch sees you in the hall and catches the way the light inside you seems to dim dangerously low when the man shows little interest in the things you love to talk about. You're disappearing before their eyes and it's killing them.
One night there is dance held during a feast and the whole Court has been invited. For some reason, a fight breaks out between two families, the men shouting and throwing punches. All Hell breaks loose as the crowd on the dancefloor begin fighting and pushing, and your suitor leaves your side to help defend his brothers who jumped in to defuse the situation. Abandoned in the middle of the chaos, you are jostled and crushed from every angle, unable to get out of the middle of the fight. Sir Abbot jumped into action the moment the first punch flew, and he is charging through the crowd with vicious movement, cutting down anyone in his path, his eyes locked on you. You get hit in the head by a metal chalice that was thrown by someone right before he makes it to you. You cry out in pain right as Sir Abbot bends and lifts you up over his shoulder without stopping, one strong arm pinning you to him while the other carves a path to safety outside the banquet hall.
Dr. Robinavitch catches up to you and Sir Abbot, having watched his friend save you from the chaos, and directs the three of you to the quiet safety of his office. Once there the two men check you over, examining the cut on your head from the chalice and holding your hand for comfort. The doting care brings tears to your eyes and soon you're crying, overwhelmed by the night and by the trajectory of your life and by the realization that this - them caring for you together - is a silly dream you'll never have.
They ask you what's wrong and in your despair you tell them. You don't want to marry that man, you're in love with someone else - two someones actually - and your father will never approve because the men are fifteen years your senior and the King would never allow his Princess to marry a physician or a knight, and you tried spend more time with them both to let the crush run its course but all that did was turn those feelings into love. They are the only men who you've ever loved, the only men who make you feel loved, and you can't pick between them, and you know you'll never have them and it's killing you.
Michael and Jack are completely floored by the confession. Never in their wildest dreams had they imagined that you'd love them back. To stop your crying they confess their love right back to you, they explain how and when and why they love you. They take you into their arms and hold you close and in that moment, the three of you decide your love is something to fight for.
