Lost Knight
Inspired by the “last sunrise” au by @bleusarcelle on instagram
So I had this idea running through my head today. And we'll... high middivil fantasy where Keith is a knight from the land of Gal who was sent with a squad to infiltrate and invade the land of altae. The only thing is is that the route they have to take is the forbidden enchanted forest. Now Keith grew up with a superstitious family. Witches if you will. And when stoping to rest in the heart of the forest starts to perform a rite of passage ward. A small ritual to appease the forest and to ask for protection. But see his squad mates? They think it's bullshit and laugh at him before destroying his lil make shift alter and ward. Saying that the forest being haunted was a myth and that Keith is stupid for thinking it such. So they make camp but Keith is too keyed up after the destruction of his ritual, stays up to keep first watch.
This is where we cut to shiro, who is the king of the fae, and ruler of the forest. He catches wind if intruders in his forest and has his court keep watch on them. Then comes the report of the small group harming his forest and hurtin his land. He is furious. But one small fae brings attention to one human who tried to give back to his forest but was stopped by his fellow men and prevented him from continuing. This human was Keith as you can tell. Hearing this shiro decided to grant his pardon. There was at least one decent human among the intruders it seems.
Keith meanwhile is sitting by the fire on edge. He feels eye on him at every angle, and strange high pitch giggles circling around him. But when he goes to look there is nothing but the pitch blackness of the forest. He hears a snap and a thud, followed by heavy footsteps. Alert he throws himself to his feet and draws his sword. Eyes trained of the foot falls. All of a sudden a man bursts through the thick foliage and falls at his feet, gasping for breath. Keith, mind still going off with alarm bells, makes the disision to help him up and make sure he's ok. Leads him to the fire to keep warm and looks him over for any serious injury. The man greatful of his kindness explained that he came into the forest looking for herbs for his local hospital that can only be found here but got lost and was wondering scared for so long. Keith sympathetic offers to take him with till they reach the forests edge. The man is greatful and beings to talk animatedly with him. A few hours past as the talked, enjoying each other's presence, when a long guteral growl is heard close by. Keith goes to pick up his sword again and turn around when the man grabs ahold of his shoulders and turns him back to face him with a strong "don't". Keith tries to turn his head as the sound got closer but one of the hands grabs his face and forces him back. The man whispers "don't look", as Keith's eyes go wide in fright as the mans eyes glow bright gold. This isn't just some lost man anymore, this was a fae and Keith was terrified. The sound came again, this time right behind him. Keith's eyes start to stray to look behind once more but a silent "keith, don't look." Makes him jerk back to stare into those soft glowing eyes. He sees in the corner of his vision these dark tendrils shoot past him and into his comrades tents. The screams would haunt Keith's nightmares for a long time. The man brings his hand to gently carase his face and his eyes go half lidded. "Good boy." Is perred as he comes forward, lips brushing his. Keith's eyes loose focus, and begins to close. The last thing he hears before he looses himself to darkness is, "be grateful, as I have granted you your life to keep. Though I have enjoyed our time together I'm afraid this is goodbye for now. The next we meet I may just make you my queen, hmm? Remember me for I am takashi shirogane. Remember me and look. Sweet dreams Keith..."
The next he awakens he's out of the forest and in a hospital bed in altae territory. Without a memory of how he got there and the foggiest recollection of a man named shiro and this unyielding need to find him.
slow dancing + sheith + maybe historical pretty please please please
(Okay, so I did slow dancing already for them, but historical Sheith is the way to my heart. Dammit.)
“May I have this dance?”
Keith stared at Prince Shiro’s outstretched hand, and thenat the crowd. It seemed like all eyes were on the two of them, thewhole ballroom holding its breath. His heart pounded so hard he could scarcelyhear the musicians starting the waltz.
The prince continued to smile softly at him.“Please?” he added.
Keith knew he shouldn’t, but he’d never been able to turnShiro away for anything. He’d never wanted to.
He took Shiro’s hand and followed him onto the dance floor, resolutely ignoring the stares and whispers of the people surrounding them. Heknew what they were saying, anyway: he was only a knight, only a bodyguard, what business did the prince have asking himto dance?
But then Shiro slid his hand around Keith’s waist to thesmall of his back and pulled him close, and Keith found himself caring a lotless about what others would be saying.
“I’ve been waiting to ask you to dance all night,”Shiro said, sweeping him into the waltz.
Keith looked down and tried to remember the steps from hisdance lessons. He didn’t dance often, didn’t feel as sure of himself as he didwhen he had a sword in his hand. “I imagine there are a lot of people herewho are very disappointed about that, Your Highness.”
“It’s my birthday,” Shiro said. “I can askwho I would like to dance, can’t I?”
“You can dance with whoever you’d like even when it isn’t your birthday,” Keith pointedout. “You are the prince, after all.”
“You’d be surprised,” Shiro said softly, and alittle sadly.
Keith frowned. “What do you mean?”
The smile fell from his face. “It’s been stronglysuggested that I use this ball to find a potential partner.”
Keith felt like he’d swallowed something cold and slimy.“You…they want you to marry.”
“Yes.” Shiro sighed. “The problem is I’vealready found someone. But…even if they’ll have me, I know it will be anuphill battle to convince the council that it’s a good idea.”
Everything in his throat turned to ash. Of course Shiro hadfound someone. And what was this nonsense about if they’d have him? “They’ll have you,” Keith saidfiercely, and tightened his grip on Shiro’s shoulder. “They’d be thegreatest fool to turn you away.”
Shiro’s lips twitched up in the slightest smile. “Youthink so?”
“I have no doubt, Your Highness,” Keith said, evenas his heart sank into his feet. “Anyone who finds themselves the objectof your affections should count themselves the luckiest person alive.”
“Do you?” Shiro asked.
“Do I what?”
Shiro dipped his head closer. Keith hadn’t thought theycould get much closer than waltzing, but suddenly they were so close he couldn’t breathe. “Do you count yourselfthe luckiest person alive?”
Keith stared at him, because he couldn’t make Shiro’s wordsmake sense in his mind. It was like thinking through very thick mud. “Me?”And then, as the pieces fell into place, “Me?”
A faint blush colored his cheeks, but Shiro did not lookaway. “If you would have me, yes.”
Keith was very glad Shiro was leading their waltz, becauseevery part of his mind had stopped working and had latched onto the news that he was the one Shiro wanted. “OhGod. It won’t just be an uphill battle. It will be an uphill war.”
Shiro pressed his lips together, like he was fighting asmile. “It will be, yes. But I know it would be worth it. If that was whatyou wanted. What do you say?”
His heart soared, and Keith threw his arms around Shiro’sneck and pulled him into a kiss in front of everybody in the damn ball. Hangthem and their gossip; the man he loved lovedhim back.
“I’ll take that as a yes, then?” Shiro asked.
“I am not a fool, Your Highness,” Keith said.“Of course it’s yes. Now and forever.”
Shiro leaned in to rest his forehead on Keith’s. “You’regoing to have to stop calling me ‘Your Highness,’ you know.”
“I suppose I can learn to call you 'my lord,’”Keith said.
Shiro laughed softly. “I was hoping you might just callme Shiro.”
“I suppose I can learn that, too,” Keith said, andpulled Shiro–his prince, his betrothed–in for another kiss.
He was indeed the luckiest person alive.

Shiro may be enjoying the tournament, and the gathering surrounding it, but his attention lingers, as always, on his knight.
