Knight!Simon, who is devoted to Royal!Reader. He's loyal like a dog, guards you with his life and refuses to leave your side. Even if he may never be more than a knight to you, he will stay with you and do whatever it takes to keep you safe and happy.
Simon, who is known to all as Ghost, knew that you probably didn't need him to walk you through the garden or accompany you in the castle's library... But he always does it anyway, simply because you asked. Simply because it's you. And for you, Ghost would do absolutely anything.
And maybe you shouldn't confide in your knight, whose loyalty bordered on infatuation. In fact, the line between devotion out of duty and devotion borne of adoration and longing became so fine that it was nonexistent to Ghost. But you did, you told him everything and he guarded those secrets with his life just as fiercely as he guarded you.
"I do not wish to be rude to the chefs, and I do not want to complain to them as I know they work hard," you said after dinner one night, while Ghost observed you going through the motions of your nightly routine. "But the venison was... Horrid. It tasted as if the poor deer died twice."
"Hm. I could pass the message along to them." Ghost offered, dark brown eyes tracking your every movement. "Could tell them to get their act together before their hands get mounted on the wall."
"God, no... Please, no." You said, fighting the urge to laugh at the ridiculous threat. If you could see beneath Ghost’s face covering, you would see a smile curling at the corners of his scarred lips. "Perhaps I'll leave a cookbook in their quarters instead, open it to a page on venison... But please, leave their hands alone."
On another occasion, you griped about how uncomfortable an outfit for a ball was. How it felt like you were being strangled by your own clothes. Midway through the ball, Ghost made an excuse to take you aside so he could discreetly loosen the fabric around your neck. The timing was perfect too, as you were forced to dance with the heir to a neighboring kingdom who had two left feet.
“My knight, did you see? They wouldn’t stop stepping on my toes,” you muttered, tilting your chin up as Ghost undid the topmost button at your collar. “Do you think it was on purpose?”
“Unsure,” Ghost replied, his eyes darted over to the bumbling royal in question. “Though I would hope not.”
He stuck close to your side the rest of the night, glaring daggers at the royal every time they even breathed in your direction.
But in the days following the extravagant party, something was weighing on your mind... And you refused to say a word of what it was. Ghost could see how fake your smiles were, how forced it all felt as you went through the motions of your routines. It looked as though you were losing sleep too, but he did not want to press the matter... Not since your elderly parents always seemed to be hovering now. Speaking of which, the king and queen seemed happier than usual, all smiles… Oblivious to their own heir’s dismay. It was a week after the ball when you showed up at your dear knight’s quarters... Puffy eyed and trembling slightly, your regal attire rumpled along with your hair.
"Your Grace... Has something happened...?" He asked carefully. For once, he was out of his armor, the helmet he normally wore nowhere in sight. "Come inside, tell me what troubles you."
You barely waited for his invitation to enter his chamber, frantic yet still trying to maintain your perfect, regal air. Ghost hated it, hated how it looked so forced… But he could see the cracks, he could see how the professionalism was melting away and leaving his exhausted charge. Rubbing aggressively at your eyes, you gathered the courage to speak.
"Simon... I am expected to marry the heir to the neighboring kingdom." The use of his true name, not 'Ghost', not 'my knight'... But Simon. It caught him off guard. You had never used his name before, Ghost didn't even believe you knew it. "They… My parents have arranged for me to... They're marrying me off. Simon, I don’t want this, I don’t want to lose…" You trailed off, your eyes looking miles away. Perhaps into a future without… Something, or someone.
"Your Grace... No..." Ghost's rumbling voice seemed softer than ever as he reached for your hands. "I... I will remain your knight. You will not lose me." That much he was sure of. But you shook your head, and his heart sank.
"You will remain my knight. Always, Simon." You confirmed, and Ghost relaxed just a bit. "But I do not wish to lose my freedom... To marry them would mean being tethered to another... No, I refuse. I refuse…!” Your voice climbed up an octave as you continued, and Ghost swiftly closed the door to his chamber before making his way to you. “I will not marry a person I barely know, it will be over my dead body. Kingdom politics be damned... No!" As you went on, repeating yourself until your voice broke, fresh tears tumbled from your eyes once more.
Ghost was at a loss for words... Which you could hardly tell, since he was generally silent anyway. But he took you into his arms and held you as you sobbed into his shoulder. Every mournful sob and wrack of your body felt like a knife in his heart. Your knight shushed you, stroked your head as he let you cry… Until you grew tired and he carried you to your own quarters. All the while, the cogs in his head turned faster than they ever have, a plan took shape and the desire to act grew.
After that night, that moment of you confiding in your knight once again, Ghost got to work. While your aging parents helped you, their only heir who was finally going to get married and take over for them, Ghost formulated a plan. One involving a rogue noble who was now hailed as a villain, an ex-prince who fled his own kingdom, and a knight turned charming thief... Plus a few castle servants who he paid off to assist, to set up a scene.
You awoke one night to Ghost at your bedside, shaking you until you woke up. He motioned for you to stay silent, though his eyes pleaded for you to trust him. Instead of his armor, he wore something lighter... Still protective, but something that wouldn't clank or rustle much.
And since this is your knight, the one who you trust with your secrets and life, you stood and let him lead the way. Ghost led you out of the castle, and stopped to fix a shawl over you. He lifted the hood to make sure your face was covered enough. Then you went to the stalls, and he helped you onto the back of the black and white stallion he trained himself.
"My knight... Might I ask where we're going this late...?" You finally asked after he hopped on himself, your arms instinctively wrapping around his middle. Why you didn’t ask sooner was no mystery… You trusted him, even in your confusion.
"Somewhere safe," Ghost explained over the clomping of hooves. "Somewhere where you won't have to marry a stranger... Your parents will believe they took you." He made sure to thank those servants on the way to your room, the ones who promised to set up the 'evidence' of a crime that never happened. "Let them believe it, let both kingdoms fight to the bloody death."
Ghost sounded cold, cruel, but when he glanced back at you for a split second you could see nothing but warmth in his eyes. And in his voice there was a reverence which was unmistakable.
"Both kingdoms could fall for all I care. So long as you are safe and sound... That is all I will ever care about," said Ghost with deep devotion resonating in each word. "And where we're going, nobody will judge or sell us out. It will only be us, Your Grace."
Your head rested against his back, and your arms tightened ever so slightly around your fearless knight. It almost sounded too good to be true. "How could we be sure that they won't... That I won't be dragged back kicking and screaming, and you'll be... God, Simon, they would have you executed."
And to your surprise, he just laughed, shoulders shaking slightly.
"So would all of the others there. We'll be in the company of the disgraced. Of someone who despises their own kingdom and any kingdoms like it. Of a thief. Three individuals whose heads will roll if any of us get caught.” Ghost said as the two of you rode further away from your kingdom. “We will be safe, Your Grace."
Knight Ghost and Jester reader Au (oneshot)
Was joybaiting all of my friends by sending a message saying I appreciate you chat.

Everyone knew you.
How could they not? You are the jester, the one that makes the emperor laugh and smile, that entertains for hours even when bad days come.
People would brighten up being around you.
Except for one person.
Mister Simon Ghost Riley…
He wouldn't even smile at your preformances (you couldnt even see half of his face that was covered by a mask. But you just know he hasnt smiled at all.)
You tried everything! He was just..
Difficult
It was another one of those rest days, the emperor let you go into the lively festive fair, his knight Ghost taging along you to keep you protected from those that wished to use you as leverage. (Like the emperor would care if you were gone).
Your walking along side Ghost, the atmosphere felt lively and bright. The sun was shine, flowers blooming and days like these kid were running around joyfully.
You felt a tap on your shoulder
"What are you searching for? I have matters to attend at the castle, we must make haste." Ghost said roughly, he looked bored and unamused.
"Trinkets for the emperor, i need to entertain him." You grin, if you had your usual jester suit with the bells they would be making noise from how your buzzing with excitement. "Oh and maybe some other things like different kinds of hoops, that reminds me i have to get more training mats for the other new tricks im going to do!"
He looked at you annoyed "we dont have time, i have other things to d-"
"Tsk tsk tsk" you tut cutting him off "Your one task you have to do today is make sure i dont get stabbed in the back!" Your one task were grinning from ear to ear. "we are spending the whole day out here till we see the sun set and the fireworks go boom wapushhhh" you tried to imitate the fireworks going up and exploding.
He glared down at you rubbing his temple in frustration becasue you were right. He only had one sole task today and he musnt fail. He sighed "cmon then."
You chuckled grabbing his arm much to his surprise and leading him around. He watched you silently as you moved frlm booth to booth buying trinkets, or random 'cute' things just because.
He watched as you played those games that scammed people, it was amusing (-but also embarrassing, he wasnt used to being the center of attention but with you around there was no avoiding it) to see you full on being competitive agaisnt other children trying to get the same ghost shaped plushy.
It was around sunset when you left Ghost by another stand -he got sistracted by the knife and sword collection one of the blacksmiths had- only for you to come back with some food, a big plate of chinese food with two forks and two drinks in bag.
"Lets go eat and watch the fireworkss." You smiled back up at him, watching him closely. He was still holding one of the switchblades in his hand, he looked down at it and put it back-he didnt bring any money anyway.
He nods, leading the way to the grassy fields. Many people set up to watch the fireworks, with their blankets on the floors or chairs up and ready. Kids were running around, a pleasent evening, a beautiful sunset too.
You were setting things down, sittinf down on the grass with Ghost right next to you(yes the ghost plushy was sat on Ghosts lap). You handed him his drink and a fork opening the bug plate of chinese food.
"Ah shit, i forgot something at one of the booths!" You said huffing and getting up, Ghost getting ready to follow you again. "No no no no wait here ill be back in a jit."you said smiling at him.
He hesitated but nodded.
You ran off fairly quickly, Ghost dodnt think you were athletic that much. He sat patiently, his stomach rumbled hungry. The plate of food was right there and he had his fork but he didnt touch it. He will wait for you-he has been waiting for you the whole day anyways.
The fireworks were barely starting when you came back, out of breath. He bit the inside of his cheek to not laugh at the sight.
You were breathing heavily as you sat down "hah- here- i got you something." You smiled sheepishly holding out the switchblade you saw him eyeing earlier. He looked at it surprised.
"You got it for me?" He said incredulous, his hand hesitated at his side. "Are you sure?" He asked again
"Positive Knight Ghost." You chuckled watching as he took it muttering a gruff 'thank you' quietly. "Cmon lets dig in im starving from all that walking and running" you pout
"you didnt even run that much, you should see my soldiers." Ghost rolled his eyes, he grabbed his fork
"So? A jester doesnt work that much." You grumbled and he chuckled. You glanced at him and smiled- your challenge was completed.
The fireworks were starting, the sky was growing darker by the minute. It felt nice Simon supposed. Not doing work and jusf being, eating outside with you wasnt so bad.
He glanced at you seeing as you had your mouth stuffed with chowmain, you looked like a hamster that stuffed its cheeks to eat. He laughed making you look at him confused "wot?" Your voice muffled by your food.
"Nothin'" he waved you off, you rolled your eyes this time. It was quiet for a bit, other then the fireworks going full on out and showing its brightest colors. "thank you." Simon finally said after a bit.
You glanced at him "for what?"
"For this, the ghost plushy, the food and drinks and the switchblade." He stated "It wasnt… wasnt as bad as i thought i was going to be. Thanks." The tip of his ears and his cheeks were tinted red slightly.
"Its no problem." You told him. "Thank you for giving me a chance to make you smile."
He shook his head teasingly and laughed softly, he looked bqck up at the fireworks and smiled. It really wasnt that bad tonight.
You werent that bad.

This is how Simon and Johnny first met in the courier fic™️(name still a work in progress) I hope you enjoy!
Likes and reblogs appreciated! 🫶
During the early years when Simon was a knight-errant he met a young Scottish man in a small village near the Scotland/England border.
They both got a job that supplied lodging, coincidentally ended up having to share a room. There were separate beds, and thankfully, a small privacy screen in between them.
Simon and Johnny both had signed up to work the whole season for coin. Thanks to that fact that gave the Scotsman plenty of time to get under him his skin.
At first, Simon tried the silent treatment to deter the lad, but it seems the shorter man had no issue filling in the silent air with rambles about his past, his hopes for the future or anything that crossed his mind, really.
Simon had grown used to the other man’s Scottish babbling after a few weeks of working together. It wasn’t until one late night Johnny had kept Simon up past a reasonable hour again with his aimless rambles when Johnny grew silent.
Just as Simon began to write off Johnnys silence as he had fallen asleep, said man abruptly asked a life altering question; “is it really a sin to lie with a man if he also still wants to lie with a woman?” Simon didn’t think it was possible for such a boisterous man to sound so meek.
Simon remained silent that night.
The next morning, Simon observed Johnny acting like his normal self. Johnny must’ve figured he was asleep.
Or thought it was best to pretend that it never happened.
It wasn’t Johnny keeping Simon awake the next few nights. It was his thoughts, specifically the thoughts on the blue eyed man sleeping five feet from him.
If it wasn’t his conscious thoughts, it was his dreams. Vivid, feverish, skin on skin, passion in the air. Sticky braies in the morning light.
The question haunted him for days until randomly Simon spoke.
His voice, rough and gravity the Brit was staring at the ceiling with his arms tucked under his shorn head when he spoke into the darkness. “Nothin’ wrong with wantin’ to stuff a ‘ole… or have your ‘ole stuffed.”
The younger man shot up in his own bed, looking over the privacy wall at Simon scandalized. His whole face flushed deep with embarrassment.
Cut to Simon taking Johnnys ass virginity not an hour later. Unexpectedly slow and gentle, dare he say passionate.
After the season ended, Simon went on his way, not realizing he was leaving behind a broken hearted Scottsman behind.
Me and my husband Simon Riley in an alternate universe, he has to go on a crusade to kill a dragon ☹️
