Meet Winifred! Wouldn't be a Medieval setting without a political marriage!
Winifred was married to Bernard's mentor, who is now dead, leaving her with money, land, and a toothless fool. Unfortunately for her, the options were "have surviving family leech everything back" or "hope that your musty husband's former squire changed his mind on that vow of celibacy, since he had that really bad injury and can't be picky"
Luckily the latter was available, and he seems quite fond of the fool.
