Something is up with these acorns!
Turns out these ones have become the home of the gall wasp larva for species Andricus quercuscalicis. The larva inside the acorns make them grow into these funky “knopper galls”.

Curious acorn
When I was out walking at the weekend I saw this acorn...
In fact lots of the acorns were similarly afflicted by the curious knobbly growth.
I wonder if mighty oaks can still grow from it?
