I wanted the our space to be more than just a clothing store. The Benny Gold brand has such humble beginnings — it literally started with a sticker. Now, over a decade later, we are a celebrated lifestyle brand, releasing 4 to 5 seasonal collections a year, consisting of everything from hats and tees to cut & sew and accessories, skate decks, collaborations — you name it. I wanted the new space to tell that story, and also to give something back to this community that made it all possible. To foster a creative community around the shop. A place to stop, hang out and share ideas. The theme of the past few designs I shared is "knowledge". I explored a wide range of scholastic themes and incorporated our branding into the graphics. I had this idea for a open book where the folded pages made our paper plane icon. In my head it was going to be really easy, but it took a lot of trial and error to make it look right. I have pages and pages of "book plane" sketches, but I think I finally landed on a good solution.
