Who is the 🧙♀️ behind the diamond curtain? 💎 I am @juleskim and here’s my story as a storyteller and jewelry creative... 💦🏊♀️INTO THE ABYSS 🏊♀️💦With everything our communities have been through in the past year, individually and collectively, we know that big changes are absolutely required if we're going to thrive. After the pandemic hit, after the insurrection, after a renewed uprising against police violence, through one climate shock after another, it's become even more clear that we can't just go back to the ways things were—we must build back better and stronger than ever before. We can't—and won't—go back to a norm of crumbling infrastructure, tremendous unemployment, sustained racial and wealth inequalities, and ecological destruction. I am dreaming of a simple blue calm; the cooling tone of equity and inclusion through my work with Bijules. I refuse to advance myself and my community through the muck of the past just to watch it repeated yet again. I won’t contribute to the jewelry industry turning a blind eye or the world just reverting to its addiction of complacency. Stay tuned for an epic revision of my work. From behind the decks, I DJ’d and promoted its birth in New York City’s clubs to ultimately showcase on iconic celebrities like @badgalriri. The Bijules bar ring has graced international magazine covers, published in historical jewelry references, and sold to the best stores in the world. It is formidable to have created a jewelry shape and style that influences global culture and stirs authenticity. Most designers and brands honor the bar ring according to their own core values. This I am quite proud to witness; but the act of replicating and copying such a cherished and ubiquitous shape is unacceptable. The passionate Bijules community and my integrity-filled creative process will hold bad actors accountable for unethical missteps especially when the legal system fails to protect true intellectual property. To this day, I continue to proliferate trend setting jewelry designs and imbue my specific point of view into pop culture as an ethical duty. I produce from instinct and impact others with this message to affect positive change and equitable opportunity. There is absolutely no reason to create without authenticity. Fast forward to now and I can boldly claim that my professionalism is deeply personal. My person and my work are both interconnected and one does not define the other; in fact they benefit and endorse my mental health and productivity as a whole. Today, while meditating on the beach, a big ass jellyfish washed on shore as I contemplated these words regarding “interconnectedness” and the roles of co-existence. Dumbfounded at this real life coincidence, I reiterate the importance of shared goals and community as essential to the pursuit of happiness. 🐠🧜♀️💍🐙🐬🐡🐋🐠🐙 The Portuguese man o' war is a single being and a community: each man o' war is composed of many smaller twins that hang in clusters from under a large, gassed up “sail”. This sail floats on the surface, catching directional wind and riding the tide while reproduction, digestion and hunting are done underwater by various groups of attached tentacle beings.
