Outside of Ely, NV on rt. 50, the lonlirst highway in america is Garnet Hill. Sooo very cool. Across from the largest open pit copper mine in the world is the byproduct naturally occurring garners inbedded in rhyolite. Difficult to find , but a big pay off. A right hand turn off the main rd , make sure you are on the look out for signage. Park at the top near the bathrooms. And my yip is too look in the washes where the water has run down hill. Some are loose right in the dirt , others are inside the rock. We Made lots of new rockhounding friends. And found many beautiful garners. Another nevada bucket list item checked off. Great for children. McDonald’s and other food options not 10 min drive away.

So my daughter , 6 , watches this song on YouTube. DUMB WAYS TO DIE. I hate it . So I tell her to stop watching. Today she's singing so many SMART WAYS TO LIVE . lol

Laguna Beach , and the pirate tower. Not as easy as they say it into find this one. Had to park at treasure island and hike and it's about a mile total. But the beach is lovely. Getting to the Pirate tower is even harder, despite how it looks not all of the beach is connected. Easier at low tide is my guess.But you may have to walk the street , or even park in a non-parking area, lol to get a good look at the Pirate tower. The water was cooler than expected,but there is a LOT of stairs to get down to the beach, if you are non-mobile this beach will be difficult, it’s difficult even when you are mobile. And there were calcite crystals embedded in the rock ! I have never seen so many crystals in my life, and not been able to pick them up!
