I don't know if this will help your great debate... but I grew up in the South Carolina public education system (which HA is a complete wreck). Anyways, I competed in Microsoft Office applications in high school (class of 2009) on a national level - including Microsoft Word. So you got graded in correct formatting for all types of shit: tables, memos, essays, everything. EVERYTHING REQUIRED TWO SPACES AFTER A PERIOD. So, I'm with you.
