What happened in Cologne is not a migrants, asylum seekers, regional or religious topic. We - and this includes as well aware men - face sexism everywhere. We all need to stand up for human and especially womens rights. We all do not want this to happen to our mothers, sisters and daughters. I am sending all my support to the affected women, what happened is horrible and soul-destroying. And a lot of criminal assholes were involved.
But also i need to state that feminist organisations have always blamed discrimination, disgrading treatment and assaults against women, but public, in particular police, jurisdiction, politicians or advertising agencies seemed little interested. Still there are very weak laws regarding the prevention of sexual assaults against women.
Instead rape threats are very common in the internet and create a more and more threatening athmosphere which could turn into an even darker reality at some point (please compare the virtual threats against refugees which became sad reality in 2015). And now exactly these right-wing idiots usually online threatening female activists and refugee supporters are now the advocats of the victims of Cologne. Seriously, you double-tongued assholes, just shut up!
Because until now this could not be used for populist claims? What about Oktoberfest and the many sexual assaults in everyday life and women daring to talk about this? Often they are not believed or even heard, because sexism and the image of availability of women is still common sense. Let’s take the many suffering victims seriously, not only in this single case, but in the many others as well.
