The player can upgrade themselves in Mega Man 11 via a variety of optional Parts that can be purchased between levels in Dr. Light’s Lab. These Parts, along with the single-use items like Energy Tanks, can be purchased with Screws, which are dropped randomly by enemies, or found in predetermined locations in each level. Because none of these upgrades are strictly necessary to actually beat the game, but instead augment the experience to make it closer to the player’s desired setup, the game is able to make going through levels over and over feel more rewarding, by making even failed attempts ultimately somewhat profitable over time. Especially notable is the fact the player retain the screws they find even when they get a Game Over.
