[Puts head on the other’s shoulder]
the fire had long since been extinguished & most of their companions had gone off to bed, but she had made the conscious decision to wait. several days they'd spent on the road already–––– several days of travel, of adjustment, of learning & walking away from everything familiar to them. though midgar was far behind them, tifa had yet to spend an evening focused on anything but rest. this night, she had intended to make a change. away from the lights of the plate & with her eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, the sky was alight with stars. the night was so clear that she felt like she could easily count every individual star in the sky.
she'd resolved to sit there until sleep threatened to claim her, & she expected to remain there alone. & yet, she wasn't surprised at all when cloud joined her, sitting beside her without a word. silences between them were far from awkward, & this one was no exception, & yet tifa found herself speaking softly anyways.
❛ they're beautiful. ❜
& there they sat in comfortable silence. tifa had no idea how much time had passed before a weight rested on her shoulder, & she didn't need to turn her head to know that it was cloud's head that was resting there. for a moment, she straightened up as if she wasn't quite sure what to do. but, slowly, she settled into the comfort of his presence, her shoulders easing & relaxing. he hoped that he knew that he was welcome, & yet she couldn't quite find the words to say it.
instead, she sought to show him. her own head tilted to the side, her head resting on his. a sigh slipped from her lips & her eyes shut.
she wouldn't mind more nights like this one.
