                          “ you know — you’re going to have to tell your guards to BACK OFF.  they’re supposed to TRUST me, too. ”  it’s the least she could do.  there were two reasons clarke wanted to get rid of the guards that surrounded her and watched her every move.  ONE ;; she was the one who needed to regain HER trust in THEM, not the opposite.  and TWO ;; too many people to deal with at the same time.  it was still all NEW her — having people talk to her and having to respond to them.  sometimes, she’d rather just stay SILENT.  but, in her position of LEADERSHIP, silence wasn’t exactly allowed.

                the SHADOWS were the worst because it would take her an excessive amount of time for her brain to stop thinking that they were souls coming to haunt her. the angry souls of the innocent that had been KILLED in that mountain — coming back to get their revenge. clarke hadn’t eaten in days so it was only normal that she was getting deeper and deeper into her hallucinations. she’d only kept herself hydrated with some water that she went out to gather now and again — when her  f r a i l  body and still painful leg would allow her to move that far and back.

                clarke was cross-legged in a corner of the cave, rocking herself back and fourth as she tried her best to avoid looking at the entrance — where the shadows of the forest would dance and create forms that she’d see as human silhouettes. she mumbled to herself to try and keep calm, but it wasn’t working. her lips were dry and she felt so cold  ( frozen with FEAR and GUILT )  that she couldn’t even move her hands properly. this is what she got for acting upon impulse and not bringing enough belongings to survive the cold weather — though she wasn’t really in a state to think coherently about these things right now. SHAKING — she was shaking in fright as she waited for the shadows to attack her.

The vent's narrow view had obscured most of the horror, but Jasper saw enough to know his mind would be forever scarred. The scene was etched into his psyche, endless rows of cages across countless levels. 

                       The screams.                                               The moans.                                                                   The limp limbs.                                                                                             The colorless skin.

                       The lips that moved without making a sound.                  The sightless eyes that gazed into unseeable voids. 

        "There were hundreds of Grounders trapped in there."
