he looks surprisingly human when he peers into his tea and sees his face staring back at him, water-warped, but more man than the husk of one he is in his mind's eye. there are no mirrors in obito's dusty studio apartment, or anything that might suggest someone lives here, really. the walls are as bare as they had been when he'd first moved in. its most alive resident is the cactus that claims a place in the corner of his windowsill, where the uzumaki brat had left it just minutes prior. a souvenir from suna, he'd announced cheerfully, even though obito snarks something unnecessarily mean at him every time he drops by unannounced, always with some stupid present in tow as he shoulders past the door and spills into obito's home like he owns the damn place.
today, it'd been three things: the cactus, the sand in his previously-clean genkan, and a man with a vaguely familiar face. the window has been open since the sun began to tuck itself beneath the clouds. that's when he'd heard those cries down the street, little voices in a chorus, getting louder as they shouted, " what're you doing here iruka-sensei ? " all the way up the stairs to where obito's front door sits at the end of the apartment's highest floor. it's got a nice view, the landlady had stammered out, months ago. it's out of the way. she hadn't been able to look him in the eye. he hadn't cared enough to agree, because he wasn't even sure if he'd be alive long enough to enjoy it.
it'd been just a week after the final trial which decided his fate. that must be where he'd seen iruka, a passive spectator to obito's misery. or maybe it was when he'd swept past the newly rebuilt academy in passing, skulking in the shadows on a midnight walk, or when he'd been summoned to provide an opinion on konoha's newest trade agreement and accidentally stumbled in on the missions desk while searching for the hokage's office. or maybe @konohans just has the warmth of someone obito knew, once upon a time. now they sit across from one another at the table. naruto's jacket is draped across the back of the chair next to iruka's, abandoned like his mentor at an abrupt reminder to submit his mission report at his earliest convenience. obito's place isn't far from the building, at least.
iruka might find it awkward, but obito's long since killed his childhood compulsion to fill silence with clumsy words. " you can leave, if you'd like. " it's an act of mercy for the younger man, really. in truth, he thinks he knows why naruto had chosen to bring his old academy teacher along today ... but cannot seem to grasp the intentions behind umino iruka's agreement to visit konohagakure's most notorious war criminal. to gawk, perhaps, at the plight of a bird in a cage, where naruto had hoped obito might enjoy the rare company of someone closer to his age. oh well. he only laments that it's a waste of the tea in iruka's cup.

Madara was quite happy, to imagine that the borrowing from Izuna shall never be returned, because Tobirama accepted his gift, and Tobirama would eat them, happily, as it should be. If the younger Senju was feeling generous, he could ask if Madara wanted to share. It was what Madara would do, obviously, when food was involved. If he had not yet gobbled down whatever sweets were presented, that is. But Madara contained his excitement at the possibility; only the twinkling of starless eyes, and the silent drumming of gloved fingers on his lap, was any indication of his anticipation of such a favourable outcome.
my little prince charming, do not show all of your cards at once, mother's gentle words listened to, imprinted on a never ending mind, however flames cannot be contained. It flickers, licked at all probabilities of burning brighter.
He's sure mother was just being nice, because father always had a pained look, and Izuna always put a hand over Madara's lips to stop him from talking. So, Madara has learned, all these time, to remain incredibly patient, even if he has the whole story planned out already. it is good practice to anticipate … more outcomes than one, or three, my dearest.
All that imagination came to a halting stop, his face composed into a confused dance of trimmed brows, neck elegantly shifted to look curiously at box, like one of his falcons at foreign object. His throat suddenly dry, and he became all too aware of his breathing at this rejection. Tongue darted out to wet lips, anxious, a gloved hand massaged the back of his neck in an attempt to comfort himself.
It has always taken Madara that bit longer to collect himself when in distress. That note, what did that note say ?? Frowning, Madara snatched the box to his side, its cover haphazardly transported atop a stack of papers, causing some to flutter about.
Reading the note, pale features flushed hot with embarrassment. Gloved hand cannot stop squeezing his neck. ❝ Please believe me, I had no clue, ❞ that Izuna had kept all of this from him for his own good. Quickly, Madara got the cover again, and closed the box. Wipe off any blemish or dust. In the middle of that, the note is crushed in a gloved hand. What came next was a hurried confession, ❝ I only meant to delight you. Nothing in the note is true. Uhm. ❞ Madara's lost the plot, clearly, having no idea why this offended Tobirama. But the man was curt, so it must have been bad enough. That itself warrants an amount of ownership of fault. ❝ I am usually thorough, but in this, I have erred. We can have something else. ❞ oops. ❝ I mean, you. ❞
@konohans sent a letter. ‘ most kids... can be difficult, just like most adults . ’ iruka confiding in gai abt being adults <3 let these older circle have more friends!!! | prompt.
the laughter coming from powerful chest is a warm melody, entirely unabashed and unashamed as if the jônin aimed to outshine the sun itself. the taijutsu master was never one to make himself smaller for the pleasure of others, NOT HIS PERSONALITY, not his charm, not his feelings. and the likes of iruka umino, those the maito considered close friends, would get everything -- all the time -- all at once. ( a lot of people consider him exhausting to be around. . . ) ❝ it's adorable when the children do it, ah, the exuberance of youth!! ❞ it's the new generation's right and priviledge to test the grounds they stand on, to be cheeky; to lean out of the window, GAI HAS DONE THE VERY SAME.
it's less adorable when adults do it. and he cannot help but think of the village elders, so vain and unylielding in their, rather obsolete, beliefs. not thoughts he'd voice, of course, as a jônin he is supposed to be loyal and deeply respectful. ( they just make it difficult, is all )
❝ i hope you don't mind me!! ❞ his elbow playfully nudges iruka's side, HE WAS OFTEN CALLED DIFFICULT; difficult to work under, difficult to work with. the fire of his soul too bright, his fists too hard, his mind too stubborn. you don't become the world's greatest taijutsu master by being mediocre. IRUKA KNEW THAT. ❝ anyone giving you trouble? if you give me a name i'll be sure to knock some sense into them. ❞
[ stay ] iruka telling gai to stay !! hehe
@konohans
His eyebrows raise a little, and the edges of his lips lift in a cheeky smile. “Oh my, Iruka-sensei, is that your teacher voice?” Gai’s teasing is low but gentle. He looks over Iruka with fondness, and brings a hand to clasp the back of Iruka’s head, the webbing of his thumb cupping the bottom of his ear as he swipes his thumb across his hairline.
Iruka’s openness doesn’t surprise Gai, but it’s something he isn’t quite used to. In fact, his readiness to return Gai’s affections has him pausing sometimes, unsure if he’s done enough to earn it. Gai is used to working for it. Running through the village in search of the person of his affections, and cooking up all sorts of excuses to spend time: a challenge, a dare, a mission. And when Gai tried to convey the extent of his emotion, it… hadn’t gone well, to say the least. The memory makes him falter, his smile fading with a sudden seriousness.
Surely with his head on his chest like that, Iruka can feel the way Gai’s heart has started thudding faster. He wants, he wants to stay, wants to be wanted. Wants to fall into this moment and this person and believe. Gently, he lifts Iruka’s head so that he can really look at him.
Iruka’s wide, steady gaze punches the air out of Gai’s lungs. Gai swallows past the thick knot in his throat.
“I’d like to stay,” he says. “Have I earned it?”
[ intertwine & kiss ] – for the sender’s muse to intertwine their finger’s the receiver’s muse and kiss the back of their hand (iruka seducing gai 😏)
@konohans
There is something about the feel of skin on skin that is so healing. Comforting. Iruka’s hand is warm in his, and tenderness seeps through their palms and where the webs of their fingers lock together. The soft touch grounds him as they walk in the dim night towards Iruka’s place, urging his heart to beat steady and slow, like the way that their affections have unfurled betwen them.
When Iruka raises his hand to his lips, and presses a soft kiss on the back of his hand, he feels his stomach flip. How funny, that a gesture so simple, can make his soul buzz in delight. How funny that he feels nothing like image of the powerful taijutsu master he’s been putting on; the sweetness of the moment has eroded all thought away for the moment. Gai smiles, the corner of his eyes crinkling.
“I feel that my chest has just burst open with emotion! Iruka-san, I hope you know that such actions make me feel deeply cherished. And I hope you won’t mind that—-” Gai tugs Iruka nearer by the hand, and brushes his other hand over Iruka’s jaw, “—-I’d like to send you off with a real kiss.”
There is a special charm in the dead quiet of the night, when surely no one is watching, and they are alone except for the moonlight that falls so sweetly over Iruka’s countenance.
Gai feels open and open and open, and when his lips press softly against Iruka’s, he cannot help the smile that widens giddily across his face; his head dips, forehead pressing against forehead, breathless with embarrassment. “… What are you doing to me?”
🍷 from iruka mayhaps…….
The invitation was humble enough. Asked between shifting pages of paperwork, passing pens, and between annoyances muttered under their breaths. It was a … kind gesture in his mind. A building activity to set the foundation blocks of friendship, isn't that what normal people did? Invite a coworker out to dinner—or, drinks? Spending time, or the entire night, wasn't something seen as … intimate. That was different in Suna, dates were often done at night, it was cooler, calmer. The only true relaxed time of day, and with so little of it to spare, you either took that date home or spent the night trying to woo them for another. Konoha was cool all day long, at least to him, so why @konohans invited him at night confused him.
Before, it struck him that different villages have different social ideologies. Still, as he neared the spoken location, he felt more and more anxious. He changed into fresh clothing, but put his normal, beaten up, flak jacket over the black garb. He wore his headband as well, casual was not something he did outside his home … and, it had been a minute since he's been on any kind of date. [ Though, in recent memory, he recalls wearing his mission attire on that date, as well. Perhaps that's why there wasn't another. ]
“Iruka,” Baki greeted. Though he knew he wasn't late, but instead painfully on time, he adds: “I hope I'm not late.” Embarrassed, he swept a glance around the room and cleared his throat. “I hope I didn't … misunderstand the invitation. I'm not dressed for anything else.”

Madara could have returned to the village at least one week prior. Yet he tarried his journey, citing an excuse to explore certain lands to make notes of, and sent the accompanying squadron ahead of him back to Konoha to submit reports on his behalf. In truth, the Uchiha lord tires of the clinging grief that would not leave his mind, and he thought moments alone with fresh air and better scenery could give him the respite from noise, murmurs, the overall stress he felt about carrying the weight of Hashirama's expectations, the village, the clan's survival, all alone without Izuna's smiles and hugs.
The world was indeed beautiful, but Madara's eyes were sewn with a blood red that sullied the brightness of it.
Alas, Madara could no longer find an excuse for his extended leave from the village, lest he invites more inquiry about his loyalties and souring reputation. But woe to him who could not escape the prowling of the albino Senju in the night. To avoid that path, once seen, was considered immensely rude, but Madara did not wish to answer any questions from anyone, for he had no satisfactory answer other than he felt like it. An impulsive thought.
His nod in greeting, small, lacking sincerity. ❝ I am tired. Could this wait until the morrow? ❞ tired, was a severe understatement. Stubbornly the Uchiha lord tried to walk away, unwilling to stay a second longer in the face of his worst sorrow. Tomorrow, after he's rested, with a fuller belly, then he could stomach it, he's sure. Now, he avoids eye contact.
But Tobirama grabbed his wrists, the cold infiltrating what little skin peeked through was so abrupt, it completely shocked Madara. Was it not complete irony, that Tobirama would be the first one to touch him, when Madara had more of a cause for violence, to revenge the blood of his dearest kin?
A momentary delay, a lapse in judgement, Madara stepped back and yanked his arm away, which only caused the Senju to come in uncomfortably close. A gloved hand stopped Tobirama's descent, solidly put at his chest, ❝ Are you out of your mind ?! Does your brother not teach you to respect your elders ?? ❞ It was taking every ounce of control not to convert warm rapid breaths into literal fire, imagining it turned that pale face into charcoal. Breaking out into a fight on the streets would be undignified of the Founders.
❝ Will waiting KILL you ?? ❞
