Possible Spoilers Ahead

I hate that Sophie is stuck with this idea of “no secrets.” What with her bodyguards, her friends, and ESPECIALLY her relationship with Fitz (cognatewise and otherwise), she doesn’t really have people giving her a chance to keep things to herself. Every time something happens, she’s basically obligated to tell everyone about it immediately.

And look, I get it. It’s very important for certain people to know certain things. But she shouldn’t have to tell EVERYONE about EVERY little thing that happens to her.

She can’t have any private conversations, because the bodyguards are always there or Biana is always popping up. (Don’t even get me STARTED on how annoying that is) And anytime that she doesn’t tell them something, even if she planned to or not, her friends get so offended and upset, which causes Sophie to feel extremely guilty, which then leads to her feeling uncomfortable with ANY sort of secret that she has.

Honestly, it’s surprising whenever someone DOESN’T force her to share everything. Like when Edaline and Grady gave her some space, or when Tiergan and Oralie tried to help her understand that you can still trust someone even if they’re keeping something from you. Not just for the readers, but I think for Sophie as well.

And it’s a hard idea for her to accept. I mean, not even two hundred pages later, Sophie is angrily telling Mr. Forkle that she “can’t trust someone who’s hiding things” from her. And yeah, I get it, the identities of her bio parents are a really big deal. But to go so far as to say that she can’t even trust Mr. Forkle?

Not to mention all of the serious consideration that she’s given to GOING INTO PEOPLE’S HEADS FOR ANSWERS-suggestions that mostly came from her friends. Every time that someone brings it up, I want to slam the book closed.

(I haven’t finished the book yet. Maybe Sophie and her friends actually learn that a little bit of privacy isn’t actually a BAD thing. But so far, that really doesn’t seem to be the case.)

and i'll have more words once i feel like i can post spoilers without people getting mad at me, sometime in december probably.

until then, im off to go ponder what this book means.

Guys I’m gonna say it. I hate wylie’s parent dynamic and how it’s being dealt with in the series.

We had the build of prentice being healed for SO LONG and it’s been completely ignored since it happened, and it doesn’t even bother Wylie. Also, prentice’s mind was broken at about the time Wylie was 8 if I remember correctly and his mom died shortly thereafter. He’s 18 now. He’s been living with Tiergan as his dad for 10 years and yet they don’t have the father/son dynamic at all. And yeah you could argue that it was because Wylie knew Sophie would heal prentice’s mind or whatever but it took Sophie less than 2 years to completely think of Edaline and Grady as her parents so you’re really telling me that Wylie and Tiergan wouldn’t be super close? nah sis that ain’t gon work. Honestly, I think Wylie should be thinking of Tiergan as his dad much more than Prentice because of the fact Tiergan has been there for longer than prentice was and was there through a much bigger growth time for Wylie.

Literally I can’t be the only one who thinks this.
