Keefe, after Sophie shows him Sleeping Beauty and he learns that Aurora was woken up with a kiss:
Hi I was just curious, how would you react if Sophie became a councillor at the end of the series?
Hi!
Honestly after reading Legacy, seeing as Sophie literally works for the Council now, I wouldn’t be surprised if this did happen. I wouldn’t like it, however. I keep feeling like the best way for the plot to get where it needs to go in these books, the old system set in place for how things work in the elven world needs to be remade. The way the elven government works needs to change; the way matchmaking exists currently needs to change; the stigma around being Talentless and the undue importance on special abilities needs to change...a lot needs to change, and I don’t think it can change for real without the old system being set aside, and a newer, healthier system being formed.
Unfortunately, I feel like Shannon is trying to angle for a “change from within” sort of play? Where Sophie and her friends will miraculously change how the elven world operates by working within the current rules of the elven world. And in my personal opinion, change from within will always be restricted by the system you operate within, and will not usually sustain change that actually sticks. For example, the concept of matchmaking can’t be improved if you follow all the rules of matchmaking and never break them, see? So if Sophie ends up becoming a politician at the end of the books by being on the Council and operating in the same system that’s already in place, I will definitely be disappointed, but not surprised.
However, something tells me you weren’t asking about this plotwise so much as you were asking romance-wise, since Councillors can’t marry or romantically see each other publicly. If Sophie ends up in a situation at the end of the series, like being a Councillor, where she never has to “choose” anyone (which, don’t get me started on how silly I think it is that she “has to choose” at all, since no one e v e r has to choose anyone, and can live perfectly complete lives without romance), I don’t think it would be inaccurate! But I also think it would be a copout on Shannon’s end after all of the hype she has significantly placed on Sophie’s love life throughout the books. It would upset both sides of the stupid ship war I hate so much, which would mean more people would end up unhappy than satisfied. I don’t think Shannon will be contractually allowed to do that, since her publisher pushes sales of her books based on the hype around her romance (and don’t get me started on how ridiculous that is, either). So I personally wouldn’t think it contradicted Sophie’s character, but I would think it was lazy writing on Shannon’s part, and I already believe Shannon is better than that.
The worst part of Legacy is Linh returning to her abuse household and we don't talk about it enough
Oralie: Sophie, I'm not your mom.
Sophie: *snifffffff* AHHHHH I SMELL CAP
Sometimes I feel like Lord Cassius, in a really creepy not so great at parenting and my son hates me kind of way, ships Sokeefe
Biana Vacker’s character hasn’t been worked on enough.
I want a fully rounded description of her character: inner thoughts, fears, and hopes. The complexities of her personality: people and ideas she would stand up for as well as her ideals for the future and situations that make her freeze and quiet her confident nature.
We saw her originally not like Sophie bc she was protective of Fitz. I loved that.
I loved seeing her not afraid to hide her scars in Legacy. I need more of that.
But like I want to know more!!!!!
How does she feel about not having Maruca as a close friend anymore?
Legacy really said ‘fuck foxfire’, huh
someone should stop me
i have a legacy theory, and this is the first spoiler post im making about the new book, so if you haven't read legacy yet, skip over this please!!
we all know from the first book that the elves' abilities are determined by the limbic system. so lady gisela's creepy "ceremony" must have affected keefe's limbic system right? and shadowflux changes everything. in real life the limbic system affects basic moods, emotions, drives, etc,,,
what if keefe isn't keefe anymore?
what if the shadowflux changed him so deeply that he no longer feels the same emotions he once did?
this theory isn't really followed by anything, mostly because i don't want to take any ideas others have had (this is pretty close to an amnesia trope), and while i'd love to write my ideas, i also don't want to undermine anyone who's planned something like this already. however, my theory still stands.
this isn't necessarily something i want to happen, or something i think will happen, but more something i noticed, something that could happen. it seemed coincidental that the limbic system is what determines their abilities, and that it's also the emotional center of the brain.
