I have always enjoyed the Try Guys series on Buzzfeed, and this one in particular was a special favorite. Every time Buzzfeed did a Try Guys segment, I had always thought that it would be great if they could do something related to pregnancy. In my opinion, giving birth to a child is one of the most miraculous opportunities given to women, and I felt like we were being unappreciated. In this video, guys are given a chance to experience the weight and discomfort that women feel, and are given a chance to relate to them. I feel that if men gave a chance or a thought to experience the hardships of women, we would be more appreciated as a gender.
EBOLA
The number of lives claimed by the Ebola epidemic in West Africa is exponential. The rate of infection among women is outpacing that among men, since women are the caregivers, nurses, etc. This is a result of the original outbreaks where, according to the Washington Post, “contact with infected forest animals, often making men who hunt for bushmeat or handle the meat the first targets of infection.” What I take away from this is that pretty much the men who hunt come back to their wives and then pass on the sickness them, which they are more susceptible to death. The whole matter is highly unfortunate and needs to be combated. In my opinion, I believe that if we end world hunger first, it will decrease the need to hunt for bushmeat and get sick from it. It’s possible to accomplish this, it’s just a matter if anyone really cares about it or not.
On April 27, 2015, Loretta Lynch became the first African American woman, and second woman in general, to become Attorney General of the United States. This is a great accomplishment, but not only for African Americans or people of color, but for ALL woman to be proud of. She is the 83rd Attorney General, and if only 2 have been women, and only 1 has been an African American male, that means 80 of these positions have been white men. Her being sworn into this position is a step in the right direction. It was long overdue, but I’m glad it happened.
While going through Buzzfeed, I happened to cross upon another video that got me thinking. Society is obsessed with hair, and when women have hair anywhere else but on their head and eyebrows, it’s all considered wrong. For this very reason, many women and even girls are too self conscious and afraid to stop shaving, even if they may want to. The women on Buzzfeed however prove that in reality, skipping some shaves in actually not a big deal. Women should not feel self conscious about what other people would think of their hairy legs or pits, because in the end, it’s your own life and your own decisions. I really wish that so many people would not let society and its views stop them from what they really want to do or accomplish.
