Oregon Controls Own Fate with #3 Position in First BCS Standings
There are a lot of people upset about Oregon's placement in the first BCS Standings of 2012 to which I say...Why? It's dumb to be upset. The BCS Standings are made up of computer polls plus one of the two human polls. The computers don't like Oregon, and I can't say I blame them.
A big piece of the BCS puzzle is Strength of schedule, and this is where the Ducks lack, clearly. Who have we played? How many 'ranked' teams? How many 'ranked' teams that we did play are still ranked?
Let's take a look at the list.
Arkansas State, Fresno State, Tennessee Tech, Arizona, Washington State, Washington.
Six games into the 2012 season and how many of these teams are currently ranked? NONE. Of course, Oregon has to keep winning to remain where they are and games vs ranked opponents will help their cause.
also keep in mind that this is the first BCS Standings. Nothing matters until December 1st, and a lot can happen between now and then. For instance, if 1. Alabama DOES play 2. Florida, it will have to be in the SEC Championship game before the National Title. I don't see both teams making that title game if one loses out, and look who, at the moment is in the #3 slot.
Too early to be of concern, one week, one game at a time, grind it out and we should see the Ducks through to the finish line.
