sorry I can't hang out today, I'm giving my personal information to sketchy-looking apps and have stolen every available device in the house to play the same song over and over again. yeah, it's gonna take all day.

BMT, I’m going to try phrasing these the best way possible…if you have answered them, please direct me to the post
A) Why is the numbers game so important for artists? There is some concern that Jimin is being sabotaged (his account on Spotify and Instagram being reported), and that would affect his numbers. I would like to understand why this is important and what it counts towards. The way I see it, his pre-orders are through the roof, most anticipated Kpop artist album. Wouldn’t this be more important than how many times his songs are streamed on Spotify? To me longevity matters more; I’d rather people continue to listen, continue to buy his album, he gets more radio play (if that’s a criteria) than a number one as most downloaded/streamed song of the day/week. But I don’t understand this numbers game so would appreciate your input.
B) what do you think about the route Jimin has taken as far as his album promotion is concerned? Music shows, fan calls - it’s not something I see BTS members do.
1) The numbers game is important because in K-Pop it becomes synonymous with having a succesful album or song. It shows in their mind, how popular the artist is. It contributes to them winning awards on some shows as well because they do take into consideration fan based activities. Streaming is the bread and butter for K-Pop fandoms and it tends to show the ugly side. One of the most important aspects is to break some records which in turn would show how amazing that group or solo artist is. But it is quite inorganic when a fanbase treats it like a job and just streams a song, regardless if it's any good or not. I personally could never agree to that. As much as this is part of how the game is played in the industry, it's really not a reflection on the quality of music that is put out there and also if it's really a hit, a song that is actually listened to by people in general, not just the ones who are have streaming schedules.
I saw goals for Jimin, just as they have goals for everyone. I see talks about techniques on how to make sure the song gets popular on social media by making tiktoks using the sound paired with popular k-dramas. Is no one taking into consideration the possibility of not being that type of song? It doesn't matter if it's personal or perhaps gut wrenching (just an example), what's important is that it needs to be used in edits? When fans get incredibly aggresive with their streaming efforts which do result in bullying as well, it looks to me that they think of the artist as a product first. And then, if they do have time and actually care, they might pay attention to the music itself. There is no balance when it comes to such practices.
2) What Jimin is doing in terms of promotion is actually something BTS used to do regularly pre-pandemic, just like any other K-Pop group out there. I think it might turn out to be a really good idea for Jimin because he's not distancing himself from the fans. This is a typical idol schedule and I think it will benefit him. Honestly, what I would want to see the most if Jimin is going to music shows and in the eventuality of winning (or not) is that he would actually be there, just like in the old times.
I say bravo to all you who vote and constantly stream for your faves.... I don’t have the energy and get distracted wayyy too easily.
I mean I will watch and rewatch the hell out of a video that I love, and prefomances but I can’t dedicate myself to playing it over and over again... and there are so many dos and don’t....
I ain’t got time for that!!
So bravo you streaming and voting heroes
About streaming, I always wonder what do the artists truly think about it. I try to put myself into their shoes and it just doesn’t look good.. I mean, I would constantly ask myself if I did good or not, or if it’s just the fans streaming for the sake of it but not paying attention to the music or even not liking it. To me it feels a bit like the kids going around the neighborhood to sell tombola tickets but then their grandma ends up buying them all just so they can shine the next day at school and brag about being the best seller. How can you gauge your own worth as an artist if your fans act like this? and how to feel legit in the industry? Idk, I know it’s like normal behavior now especially in kpop but as an artist I’d be embarrassed.
I see your point because I would ask myself the same thing. I think it's mostly framed as a show of love and appreciation from the fans. But is that enough? Are those the only relevant markers for a singer, performer? I hope not. Streaming turned into a sort of dick measuring contest as well which is ultimately quite childish and I see it as more important for fans than for the artists themselves. I guess they can get their dose of recognition when they have their concerts and live performances. When it's not just numbers, but actual real people that do look like they enjoy the music.
Thoughts on Streaming
Currently the popular craze is to stream music for their artists. Whether it be on Youtube, Spotify, Genie, Naver, or any other website in order to not only make them rise in the charts, but also give them more money in the process, such as with youtube views or stream pay. The main logic behind it, is that they help provide for their favorites for free, all it takes is time out of their day.
My thoughts on this craze, is that it isn’t proof that a group is better than another or that you are not a real fan for not streaming. Maybe I’m just an older kpop fan, but streaming views to me actually just prove on thing. Someone has either a lot of fans with time on their hands or money (with the rise of Sajaegi or illegal buying in bulk).
Whenever I see fans talking about the newest song that needs to be dropped, they will automatically start up a campaign within the fandom to wait by their computers to stream their music video. I have no problem with people who want to stream their favorite groups/idols music. To me, it’s too each their own. It’s when people use this as a way to demean other groups/idols or other fans within the fandom, is where I draw the line on being nice about it.
