9 krel x jim

9. Morning routine

Takes place 7+ years after Wizards and ignores RotT's existence.

Jim's sense of hearing is slightly better than Krel's is. It's one of the few traits he kept from being a half-troll. This is why Jim's alarm clock is located in the kitchen. Jim sighs as he wriggles his way out of his boyfriend's four-armed grip. It's so nice to wake up to Krel holding him, but it also means that leaving their bed is so much harder than it is on mornings where Krel spent the night in his lab.

Jim heads to their kitchen. Their kitchen, not his kitchen. Jim's kitchen is located downstairs in the sandwich shop he owns and runs. Their kitchen is located in their apartment, and Krel has tinkered with every single appliance in the room, something Jim has forbidden his boyfriend from doing to Jim's kitchen. If Krel "accidentally" turned their stove into a death laser then Jim can use his kitchen as a backup. If Krel "accidentally" turned Jim's stove into a death laser then Jim would need to make some temporary menu changes while he waited for Krel to fix the stove. Or for Krel to uninstall the stove and pick up a new one from Stuart or Zoe.

(It's been three years and Jim still isn't sure if what Krel did to Jim's stove was as accidental as Krel had claimed, not when Krel looked so happy to have the death laser.)

(Maybe it's worth it if it means Jim can have the blender, toaster, and microwave all on at one time.)

It's Tuesday, which means that Jim needs to take inventory today before going through his other pre-work routines. That means that breakfast needs to be simple today. Well, what Jim defines as simple. His friends disagree on his definition. Pancakes (made from scratch, of course) and egg bites it is. Those are also easily reheated in case Krel doesn't wake up in time for Jim to eat breakfast with him.

But Krel does wake up in time. In fact, he walks into the kitchen bleary-eyed before Jim is finished making breakfast.

"Did I wake you?" Jim asks. Krel shakes his head. "That's good. You staying in your lab today or going out?"

"Gonna help Zoe for a few hours in exchange for HexTech's lab. I need more space than what we've got." In one of the last battles against the Arcane Order, the Mothership had been well and truly destroyed. Krel hadn't had a true lab all to himself until he and Jim had moved in together in the apartment above the sandwhich shop and Krel had converted the smaller of the two bedrooms into a laboratory. Even then, it was smaller than his old lab, so he'd barter for space when he needed to do something big.

"Okay. Pick up eggs on the way home? We need them for our kitchen."
