some ramblings about it below the cut 🤍

was listening to Tomorrow by Avril Lavigne and started thinking about Sarah listening to it in episode one of tlou when she’s making breakfast for her and joel.

and now I can’t stop thinking about joel waking up on a weekend when you’ve slept over at his place, tired and grumpy because your side of his bed was cold when his arm blindly reached out for you. slowly forcing himself out of bed and shuffling down the stairs with messy curls— partially from sleep and partly your doing from the activities last night in his bed— and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

his quiet footsteps bringing him closer to the kitchen and hearing the unmistakeable sounds of Avril, his daughter’s favorite, softly playing from the radio. watching Sarah mix up a big bowl of pancake mix while you’ve already got the first batch cooking on the stove, the two of you dancing and singing along together, animated and using spatulas and whisks as makeshift microphones.

Joel’s stuck standing in the doorway with a big, dopey grin growing on his sleepy face, watching in adoration as his two favorite girls jump around the kitchen singing and giggling without a care in the world, not yet noticing his presence and he’s certain in that moment that he fucking loves you.

Joel may not be the biggest fan of pancakes, but he’s more than happy to suck it up and eat them — and maybe even enjoys them just a little bit, though he’d never admit it — if it means he gets to enjoy more moments like this, seeing you and his babygirl oh so happy.
