I hate when people say "Kris doesn't experience any embyphobia" in hometown. Because what people mean to say is that Kris doesn't experience misgendering in hometown, which is not the same as not experiencing enbyphobia.

Kris is actively alienated from hometown and treated like a weird problem kid that the people around them have to "deal with". They're thought of as lesser compared to their presumably cis brother, and nobody seems to really understand them, and basically nobody interacts with them normally. Yes, this is also very clearly due to them being neurodivergent and human (which people have pointed out is comparable to being adopted into a foreign culture), but these things intersect, and they very specifically have a nonbinary experience with neurodivergence and racialization which isn't the same as a cis one.

Like, hometown is very much populated by the type of white collar northeastern liberal who won't say anything about someone being nonbinary but will 100% consider them lesser for it. Like, the way they're treated and talked about really needs to be seen through a nonbinary lense, because that's how nominally accepting but functionly bigoted people treat enbies, especially enby teenagers. Like, they're given no support from their community and treated like a weird creature nobody understands. Even little things like the contrast between the deliberately boring and neutral light world outfit and how in contrasts with all the different things they wear in the dark world. Or the way that they have nothing on their side of the room compared to all of the traditionally masculine things that their brother has, which is something that just hits so hard as a nonbinary person, like when cis society divides things into boy things and girl things and treats giving you nothing as if it's acceptance.

The same goes for Suzie and being gnc btw. Like, the way hometown talks about her is very clearly a sign of a society that views someone being masculine as a sign of being evil (also she's very much marginalized for not being part of the dominant religion). December also seems to have not fully been accepted by her family for being gnc, but that's a lot more vague because she's currently trapped in the code (and also 100% the roaring knight).

Like, I think it ties back to this idea a lot of people have that not actively calling people slurs and not misgendering people is the same as being accepting which I've seen again and again. Cis people shouldn't consider themselves good allies just because they're not actively trying to hurt us. Kris deserves more then to not be called slurs, they deserve to be loved and accepted by their community. And if you're a nonbinary person reading this you deserve more then to not be called slurs, you deserve to be loved and accepted by their community.

(Also, I'm not saying deltarune or Toby Fox are bad for writing it this way. Hometown being bigoted doesn't mean Toby Fox is bigoted. And Kris is much better representation because of the enbyphobia they have to deal with. This entire post is praising deltarune, not criticizing it.)

It just kinda sits at the foot of my bed and glows, it alone has no body, never for it to play the ivory keys of a piano, etc etc.
